The story behind this role
At Cheesecake Labs, Product Managers operate far beyond backlog management or feature delivery.
We’re often brought in when products are still evolving, stakeholders are still aligning, and business goals are clearer than the actual solution itself. That means our PMs play a central role connecting product thinking, delivery execution, client management, and strategic decision-making.
That’s why we maintain a network of strong contractor Product Managers we can engage quickly as new client opportunities and projects emerge.
Engagement details
Contractor / project-based engagement
This opening is primarily focused on building our contractor talent pool for future and upcoming engagements
Paid in USD
Remote-first within US only
Flexible allocation depending on project availability and fit
Opportunities may vary in duration, scope, and weekly commitment depending on client needs What this role actually looks like
At Cheesecake Labs, Product Managers own the full delivery lifecycle — from discovery and strategy through execution and client management.
On a typical engagement, you might:
Lead product discovery and translate ambiguous client goals into clear direction for design and engineering
Own scope, backlog, delivery cadence, and quality across complex or multi-phase engagements
Drive proactive client relationship management, surfacing risks, strategic next steps, and expansion opportunities
Work closely with engineers, designers, and delivery leaders to shape valuable, feasible, and scalable product decisions
Mentor other Product Managers from the team and help evolve discovery and delivery processes alongside Service Delivery Managers and Engineering Managers
Champion AI tooling adoption across workflows like prototyping, requirement writing, research, synthesis, and delivery operations
Act as a product reference in pre-sales conversations, strategic discussions, and client-facing product decisions
Manage part-time allocations across multiple engagements without sacrificing quality or communication clarity Some projects lean execution-heavy.
Others lean highly strategic and ambiguous.
Most are a mix of both.
What tends to work well here
People who thrive in this role usually:
Have managed digital products end-to-end across web and mobile environments, balancing strategy and hands-on execution
Feel totally confident working in English with international stakeholders across calls, workshops, presentations, and async collaboration
Make strong product decisions even when data is incomplete and the metrics environment is still evolving
Are commercially aware, understand budget/scope dynamics, and communicate proactively instead of waiting to be asked
Adapt well to fast-changing contexts, shifting priorities, and different industries or client environments
Have previous experience in consulting, agency, or service-based environments — or genuinely enjoy that dynamic
Already use AI as part of their daily workflow and naturally raise the bar for the teams around them This probably won’t be your thing if
Just to be transparent:
You prefer highly structured product environments with very mature processes, extensive data availability, and clearly defined roadmaps
You’re uncomfortable balancing product strategy, delivery execution, and client management simultaneously
You prefer operating only at a strategic level without involvement in execution and day-to-day delivery decisions
You’d rather avoid fast-changing priorities, ambiguity, or consulting-style environments
You’re uncomfortable interacting directly with clients or navigating commercial/product trade-offs There’s nothing wrong with any of that — it’s just not how these engagements usually operate.
