What you’ll be doing
You’ll work with data that truly makes a difference—because in the public sector, decisions affect millions of people. Depending on your focus:
For Data Analysts
You’ll develop dashboards and reports for the federal government, state governments, and agencies—clear, high-performing, and evidence-based.
You’ll analyze complex data structures and derive clear recommendations for action.
You’ll work closely with subject matter experts and translate requirements into robust data views. For Data Scientists: You’ll develop analytical models, forecasts, or automation approaches.
You’ll analyze large datasets, identify patterns, and build prototypes that can later go into production.
You’ll contribute your expertise in data governance, feature engineering, or machine learning. For Data Engineers—You develop stable, scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes.
You work with relational and distributed databases (PostgreSQL, SQL-based architectures, cloud services).
You ensure that data models, views, and interfaces are high-performing, clean, and well-documented. Cross-functional – You approach problems from a data perspective, bring structure to requirements, and prioritize effectively.
You work closely with UX, IT teams, subject matter experts, and project managers.
You actively contribute to building data capabilities in the public sector—through workshops, consulting, coaching, or knowledge transfer.
What you bring to the table
A degree in Business Informatics, Mathematics, Data Science, or a comparable field
Several years of experience as a Data Analyst, Data Scientist, or Data Engineer
Strong expertise in at least one of the following areas: - SQL & relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL)
Python or R
Power BI or another visualization tool
Data modeling & data architectures
ML models / advanced analytics / statistical modeling
ETL/ELT processes & data pipelines
Strong analytical skills and a keen sense for clean modeling and understandable results
Enjoyment of technical discussions, client-focused work, and clear communication
Interest in political, social, and digitalization-related topics
Very good German language skills
Experience in the public sector and in project management or technical oversight
Expertise in cloud infrastructures
Experience in data governance or data quality processes
