Agricultural Development and Water Management
The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) is a CGIAR Research Center focused on sustainable water and soil management in agricultural systems. IWMI leads initiatives like the Water and Soil Accelerator (WASA), which aims to scale climate-smart agricultural solutions across sub-Saharan Africa, particularly in Zambia and Malawi. The organization works to strengthen local institutions, build implementation capacity, and promote equitable access to resources for smallholder farmers—especially women and youth—to improve food security, livelihoods, and climate resilience. IWMI's programs address market and financing barriers to agricultural innovation adoption through agribusiness models, inclusive financing mechanisms, and private-sector partnerships.
