Monitors every phase of print and digital revisions to ensure completion on schedule and within budget while meeting Kaplan’s and the product line’s quality and branding standards. Estimate, schedule, and traffic all components of assigned publications and offerings, with assistance from management and senior team members. Assists senior team members in checking proofs and routing materials to stakeholders.

Primary/Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the production editorial process for each assigned revision project and reprints according to the editorial plan, from marked-up manuscript to release to printer and epub and digital asset creation
  • Communicate and interact directly with content team members regarding the production process and schedule, edited manuscript inserts, page proofs, and indexing
  • Learn our house formatting styles; identify and work with stakeholders and third-party vendors to fix problematic manuscript inserts and revisions so they conform to this style
  • Correspond with, assign projects to, and assess the work of third-party vendors when applicable
  • Review and evaluate comments and queries from copyeditors and proofreaders; make decisions independently as needed regarding suggested changes, with guidance from content and production manager
  • Collate and check proofs; copyedit and proofread miscellaneous material (i.e., front matter, back matter, indexes) and cover mechanicals
  • Assist more senior team members with trafficking and checking of proofs
  • Coordinate with and inform Production Manager, Digital Content Publishing, and Manufacturing regarding scheduling, planning, and trafficking to meet deadlines
  • Input and maintain accurate schedule, cost, specification, and administrative data and content in all required systems in a timely manner
  • Hybrid Schedule: 3 days remote / 2 days in office
  • 30-day notification period preferred

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors in Arts
  • Liberal Arts, English, Communication, or equivalent
  • 1+ years experience in book production editorial, specifically managing schedules, budgets, and freelancers
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and a project management tool, such as Smartsheet or Asana
  • Familiarity with print procedures and requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style, 17th Edition, copyediting, and proofreading, and experience following editorial style guides
  • Experience using digital authoring tools
  • Experience with remote work environments       
  • Some XML/HTML experience preferred
  • File management and archiving experience preferred
