Position Summary:

As a Blade Traveling Service Technician, you will be responsible to inspect, diagnose, adjust, or repairing wind turbines and completing multiple-layer blade repairs in the field, while performing maintenance on wind turbine blade equipment including resolving electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic malfunctions.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs blades major corrective repairs, maintenances, inspections, retrofits, large component exchanges, and repairs as assigned throughout North America and Canada safely and efficiently following company procedures and processes.
  • Diagnoses, analyzes, and resolves issues on blades wind turbines.
  • Utilizes specialized tooling and equipment to perform activities.
  • Identifies potential hazards and communicates to management.
  • Follows defined instructions and schedules, executes plans as directed, and performs according to the instructions from Resource Management.
  • Establishes and maintains proper business relationships with customers, subcontractors, and peers, as well as performs necessary administrative duties accurately.
  • Utilizes appropriate safety gear, protective equipment, and control or dissipation of energy sources to ensure work is performed safely.
  • Maintains, properly, tools and equipment used to perform repair activities
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • A 2-year degree in wind turbine technology or a similar field is strongly preferred
  • 2-5 years of field service experience preferred with operations and maintenances, troubleshooting, inspections, large component exchanges, and repairs of wind turbines
  • Composite repair experience
  • Understanding of Epoxy and Polyester resins
  • Wet lay-up and Vacuum bag techniques
  • Handling of Balsa and foam core materials
  • Structural repair
  • Knowledge of fiberglass reinforcement
  • Awareness and safety of powered hand tools
  • Quality knowledge of specification at temperature and humidity restrictions
  • Ability to read complex technical drawings and processes
  • Willing to spend time away from home in the field
  • Flexibility for changes of scope
  • Ability to work well as a team and take guidance
  • Able to work at height over 300ft
  • Demonstrated use and understanding of power tools
  • Ability to travel 100% domestically and internationally for extended periods and also requires working overtime, including flexible and variable work schedules as needed to meet business needs
  • Able to work independently and on a team in a fast-paced setting
  • Ability to be certified and work with both medium and high voltage equipment
  • Maintain required training certifications such as rigger/signal person certification and crane calling certification
  • Ability to read, interpret and understand drawings, schematics, instructions, and schedules
  • Basic computer skills, familiarity with internet-based programs, MS Office, and ability to generate data and reports using a computer
  • Must possess a full valid U.S. driver’s license
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Passport
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized for employment in the United States and will not require employer sponsored work authorization now or in the future for employment in the United States
  • Ability to meet specific OSHA and ANSI weight limits of 265lbs max.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical administered by a medical examiner to ensure the ability to safely perform job functions and meet the physical demands of the position
  • Travel nationally and internationally to project sites and on business as required (100% travel) and ability to obtain a passport
  • Driving is an essential function of the job. Must possess a full valid driver’s license and be insurable under our auto insurance policy. This position will be subject to periodic driver’s abstract checks to confirm continued insurability.
  • Ability to meet specific OSHA and ANSI weight limits of 265 lbs. or less
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical administered by a medical examiner to ensure the ability to safely perform job functions and meet the physical demands of the position
