Civil Engineer
Hinkley Point C with flexibility of working from home, minimum 3 days a week onsite.
Are you a qualified engineer? Do you have experience in the design of buildings in the nuclear industry? Are you looking to develop your expertise in the exciting and challenging environment of new nuclear build? If so, come and join EDF as a Civil Engineer!
The Opportunity
EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is tasked with delivering the design for several nuclear island (NI) buildings, systems, and equipment contracts for the Hinkley Point C EPR Project. This involves working through an integrated team, supporting HPC construction and commissioning efforts, and preparing design replication feasibility and engineering activities for the Sizewell C Project. As a result, a Technical Directorate is being established to oversee the engineering disciplines and technical expertise needed to successfully deliver these projects through EPR-E’s integrated teams.
The Joint Design Organisation (JDO) is a collaborative team made up of representatives from the HPC Client (NNB), who leads the JDO, along with EDVANCE, CNEPE, and contractors responsible for detailed design studies. Within its delegated scope, the JDO offers technical support at the HPC EPR site to address issues arising during the construction phases, as well as during testing and commissioning operations.
In the role of a Civil Engineer, you will support field design activities related to civil works in a designated area, primarily managing design modifications or clarifications that arise before and during on-site construction.

What you’ll be doing
- You’ll play a key role in delivering civil design assessments to support the construction process, working closely with other disciplines to ensure seamless integration. This includes managing the quality of design package modifications within your scope, overseeing surveillance activities, and leading the production of impacted deliverables. You will collaborate with the JDO team and the client to ensure alignment with project objectives, contributing to the overall success of the project.
- Additionally, you’ll support the JDO civil team lead by addressing the team’s needs in production, technical matters, and quality control. A key part of your responsibilities will be reviewing and approving deliverables issued by back-office teams and updated by the JDO teams, ensuring that design changes maintain continuity and consistency. You’ll also make sure that all methods, tools, and delegated authorities from back-office teams are adhered to throughout the project.
- You’ll protect the interests of the Responsible Designer by monitoring intellectual property and ensuring accountability when design modifications are made by the JDO teams. Your role will be critical in ensuring that high-quality deliverables are produced to support the project's objectives, while maintaining the integrity of the original design and its compliance with all necessary standards.
Who you are
- Being a Civil Engineer at EDF means demonstrating exceptional design and construction skills, particularly within the nuclear industry, and managing design activities effectively at the interface between design and construction. Familiarity with the ETC-C code and nuclear safety requirements is highly recommended to respond to design requests efficiently.
- You'll have experience with 2D and 3D design software and a background in working within a multicultural environment. Knowledge of the HPC project, previous EPRs, and related studies or doctrines would be a significant asset.
- We’re looking for someone with strong technical management abilities, particularly in handling cross-disciplinary topics, and experience in civil construction would be advantageous.
If this sounds like you then we’d love to hear from you!
