The HPC Jobs Service supports local people into exciting, long-term careers across our Project.
Are you able to effectively balance short-term project needs with long-term configuration management goals to ensure sustainability throughout the project lifecycle? Are you comfortable making high-stakes decisions regarding configuration changes and communicating the potential risks to key stakeholders? Are you experienced in fostering collaboration across diverse teams to ensure seamless integration of configuration management practices throughout complex projects?
If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join us as our next Configuration Manager at Hinkley Point C!
The Opportunity
As our next Configuration Manager, your role is to bring together the existing configuration management teams from Plant Integration, while also tapping into data and insights from other configuration functions within the Project. The goal? To create a robust "Area" configuration focus that aligns seamlessly with the Project Delivery breakdown structure.
The team's mission is to provide accurate and timely configuration data and insights to Area Managers and Directors, helping maintain clear oversight of Design Requirements, Configuration Information, and As-Built assets. To achieve this, strong collaboration with key stakeholders—including the Responsible Designer, Delivery Contract Managers, Commissioning, Quality, and Area Delivery teams at the HPC site—will be essential for effective risk mitigation.

What you will be doing
In this role, you'll lead a small team of configuration specialists, working closely with stakeholders from the CIBOP Area to ensure that Design Requirements, Configuration Information, and As-Built assets are accurately controlled and aligned. Your team's efforts will be crucial in supporting the successful licensing and startup of the HPC units. Additional responsibilities also include:
- Take charge of the Health, Safety, and Welfare of your team members.
- Build and maintain strong relationships between the Configuration Management function and all CIBOP teams that influence configuration activities.
- Develop reporting systems that highlight the level of configuration management (CM) risk within the CIBOP area for the HPC Project.
- Provide critical area input data to both the CIBOP Area and Project-Level Configuration Control Boards (CCBs).
- Identify recurring issues and support escalations to ensure they're resolved in a practical, "fit for purpose" manner.
- Preserve a robust "Corporate Memory" for the future Commissioning and Operational phases, ensuring key Configuration Information is easily accessible for future operators.
- Serve as the entry point for Configuration audits within the CIBOP scope.
- Lead the team toward a data-centric approach to managing Configuration.
Who you are
To excel in this role, you'll need a strong commitment to science/engineering/nuclear professionalism, combined with exceptional communication skills at all levels of the organisation. You must be able to influence and guide others, using strategies ranging from offering advice to providing clear direction. Success will also depend on your ability to anticipate, manage, and resolve issues related to Configuration monitoring. Critical thinking is essential, especially when making "fit for purpose" decisions, understanding the associated risks, and effectively communicating those risks across the project. Additional requirements for this role include:
- Proven experience in Project Management or Project Engineering on large-scale or complex engineering/construction projects. Familiarity with HPC Configuration Management processes and data structures is a plus.
- Solid understanding of Configuration Management fundamentals and its importance in project success.
- Strong decision-making skills with the ability to escalate and resolve issues efficiently.
- Quick learner with a demonstrated problem-solving mindset.
- Skilled in building strong relationships and managing both internal and external stakeholders within a complex organisation.
- Knowledge of Nuclear Power Station design and operation is a bonus, but not a requirement.
For this role you must have evidence of right to work in the UK. As a project, we do not discriminate on the grounds of age, gender, race, colour, religion, disability or sexual orientation, and we welcome applications from all sections of the community.
