⭐Our Risk team
We work in small interdisciplinary teams. Everyone routinely interacts directly with engineers, designers, user researchers and product managers. We develop software to automate processes and we fine-tune every journey to minimise friction. We’re looking for a collaborative, knowledgeable, and experienced Data Protection Officer on a 12 month fixed term contract, to oversee the management of data protection risk at Monzo, and to help us find a skilful balance between meeting our regulatory and ethical obligations and creating innovative, customer-centric solutions to our users' everyday money needs.

As the DPO, you will provide advice and oversight across how our data protection framework is developed and delivered. You will need to work closely with our Chief Information Security Officer who is responsible for defining, implementing and leading data protection. You will help to build data protection into the culture at Monzo and make sure that everyone is aware of their responsibilities and the minimum standards we expect. You will keep our Board up-to-date on our data protection performance and risks through monthly and annual reporting. And you will take ownership of our relationship with the Information Commissioner’s Office.

We expect you to work with the business, partnering with our data, product and engineering teams to enable growth and diversification on our journey to building a new way of banking. Monzo is not an organisation that lives to tick boxes, we need to strike the right balance for our customers to continue to grow and provide the best products and services.

The DPO is a second line role in the Risk and Compliance Collective and will report to our Chief Risk Officer (CRO).

🔑You’ll play a key role by…

You'll be responsible for providing advice and oversight across all aspects of data protection at Monzo including:

  • Providing advice on our data protection obligations.
  • Overseeing data protection risk management.
  • Monitoring and advising on our Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and how associated risks are managed.
  • Monitoring changes in law and issuing recommendations to maintain compliance.
  • Monitoring our compliance with GDPR and other data protection legislation and policies, and raising awareness of risks and control weaknesses you identify
  • Working with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and being their point of contact for data breaches.
  • Providing Executive and Board reporting on all of these matters.

🤩We’d love to hear from you if…

  • You have extensive experience in data protection in a corporate environment.
  • You have experience working in a risk or compliance team.
  • You have had significant interactions with the Information Commissioner’s Office.
  • You have in-depth knowledge of GDPR and national/international data protection laws with a suitable data protection certification such as CIPP, CIPT, CIPM.
  • You have worked with teams that have developed innovative data-driven consumer solutions at pace, and helped them develop solutions that were also compliant with data protection law and regulation.
  • You have significant experience supporting C-suite and Board Directors and top-level governance of large complex firms.
  • You are capable and enthusiastic about developing, leading and promoting a culture of data protection within an organisation.
  • You have excellent communication and collaboration skills.
