Description

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Director of IT Strategy and Portfolio Management to lead our IT strategy development, manage our IT project portfolio, and oversee IT services provided to the organization. This role can be based anywhere in the U.S. and will report directly to the Chief Information Officer (CIO). The Director will play a crucial role in aligning IT initiatives with business goals, optimizing resource allocation, ensuring the successful delivery of IT projects and services, and developing and monitoring a common set of KPIs across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement IT strategies that align with the organization’s business objectives and goals.
  • Lead the strategic planning process for the IT department, including the development of roadmaps and execution plans.
  • Oversee the IT project portfolio and IT services, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and strategic objectives.
  • Develop and implement portfolio management processes and governance frameworks.
  • Collaborate with senior management and stakeholders to prioritize IT projects and services based on business value, risk, and resource availability.
  • Monitor and report on the performance of the IT project portfolio and services, including project status, service delivery, resource utilization, and financial performance.
  • Conduct regular portfolio reviews and provide recommendations for project and service prioritization, resourcing, and optimization.
  • Develop and monitor a common set of KPIs across the enterprise to measure the performance and impact of IT projects and services.
  • Ensure effective communication and collaboration between project managers, service managers, stakeholders, and executive leadership.
  • Identify and mitigate portfolio-level risks and issues, developing contingency plans as necessary.
  • Facilitate the successful execution of IT projects and delivery of IT services by ensuring adequate resource allocation and resolving conflicts or dependencies.
  • Develop and maintain portfolio dashboards and reporting tools to provide visibility into project and service performance and portfolio health.
  • Drive continuous improvement in portfolio management and service delivery practices and processes.
  • Manage relationships with external vendors and service providers, including negotiating contracts, monitoring performance, and ensuring that service delivery meets or exceeds agreed-upon standards and aligns with project and organizational goals.
  • Collaborate with procurement and legal teams to manage vendor contracts and relationships.
  • Facilitate the successful collaboration of IT leaders across the family of companies through regular leadership meetings, communication of key updates, and regular check-ins with our IT Centers of Excellence (COEs).
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to the IT strategy and portfolio management team.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Proven experience in IT strategy, portfolio management, and/or service delivery.
  • Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, applications, and related technologies.
  • In-depth knowledge of portfolio management and IT service delivery principles, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess project and service performance and make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency in portfolio management and service delivery software and tools (e.g., Planview, Microsoft Project, Jira).
  • PMP, PfMP, ITIL, or other relevant project/portfolio management and service delivery certifications are a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred. A Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Proven experience in vendor management, contract negotiation, and performance monitoring.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, with experience managing and developing high-performing teams.
