The Opportunity - Engineering Manager

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of talented engineers and technical leads in transforming the way business owners and accountants collaborate on financial data management. You will play a crucial role in developing seamless workflows that enable our customers to effortlessly maintain accurate financial records and generate timely financial reports. Your leadership will empower our users to understand their financial health better, facilitating informed decisions and helping them achieve their business goals.

What You'll Do as an Engineering Manager

  • Drive the execution of the technical vision for a crucial line of business at FreshBooks. Establish best practices, architecture, and technical standards to ensure scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Serve as a role model and manage a team of engineers and technical leads. Collaborate closely with other product development disciplines, such as product managers and designers, to achieve a technical vision aligned with our product goals, user needs, and business objectives.
  • Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders, acting as a bridge between them and facilitating cross-collaboration.
  • Play a vital role in attracting and recruiting talent organization-wide to contribute to FreshBooks' mission.
  • Anticipate and prepare for the future in terms of technology, people, culture, and processes to drive successful outcomes.

What You'll Bring to the Role

  • Proven experience in effectively managing engineers and technical leads for at least 3 years.
  • Deep understanding of software development methodologies and best practices.
  • Strong background in web technologies, including front-end and back-end development.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a data-driven mindset
  • Experience working with Google Cloud, AWS, or other public cloud technologies.
  • Track record of establishing teams through cultivating and recruiting engineering talent.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to influence organizations.
  • Demonstrated skill in foreseeing future developments, navigating ambiguity, creating plans, and executing successfully over multiple quarters.
  • Enthusiasm for continuous learning, a relentless drive for self-improvement, and a commitment to helping others excel.
