About the Job
The External Lab Manager (EL Manager) is a global role and serves as a liaison between external laboratories, internal Labcorp departments and clients. Among other duties, the External Lab Manager will be responsible to identify suitable labs and provide quotations for the specific testing requested by the client. When the testing is awarded the External Lab Manager will work closely with internal departments, the lab and the client (as needed), to get the testing set up for the study.
The External Lab Manager is also responsible to manage assigned labs for the ongoing clinical trials and ensure successful clinical trial delivery. Therefore, the External Lab Manager needs to build close relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The External Lab Manager also needs to develop expertise on how these labs are operating and be able to develop processes to work around internal and external limitations.
- The External Lab Manager hired for IVDR will in first instance mainly focus on the organization and collection of information for tests performed at external labs, in view of IVDR testing. This includes close contact with the External Lab managers managing the labs involved, contact with key contacts at those labs, and with reagent manufacturers to retrieve required documentation. You will also contribute to the development of a process around IVDR compliance going forward. Outside of that, and mainly in a later phase you will perform standard External Lab manager duties as listed below
- Participate to the creation and development of new the external lab model
- Responsible for managing the overall current process of the referral laboratories by researching potential referral laboratories based on the assay requests, contacting referral laboratories, negotiating services, and acting as the liaison for operational issues/needs of the customer.
- Attend the New Test Feasibility meeting and provides information about referral laboratory options.
- Based on New Test Feasibility meeting decision, contact and completes the referral laboratory worksheets and obtains the appropriate technical information needed to load the database, including but not limited to specimen collection requirements, reference ranges, turn around time, and regulatory requirements such as Research Use Only assays.
- Recipient of notification of changes in assays such as method changes from the referral laboratories. Updates referral laboratory worksheets and notifies WLOS of the modification.
- Provide support to CAIR / Reportable Issues pertaining to External laboratories, obtaining root cause and preventative actions from the referral laboratory or inside ELMS.
- Facilitates technical discussions with appropriate staff at the referral laboratories, Medical Affairs, Global Heads of CCLS, Scientists of CCLS, Project Management and/or Sponsor as needed to appropriately understand the client needs and the service capability of the referral laboratory.
- Acts as the primary resource for ELMS topics.
- Provide some support to the APH Program Manager for outsourced histology testing.
- Accountable for the implementation, monitoring and reporting of internal and external lab performance metrics and take corrective actions when appropriate.
- Develop and manage vendor relationships with key laboratories in order to influence positive client and Labcorp outcomes.
- Responsible for maintaining his/her complete up-to-date training file. Individual is responsible for ensuring he/she is trained and training is documented prior to performing a task. Individual is accountable for any deficiencies found in his/her training file.
- Provides technical information, both written and verbal, to Marketing, Sales, Sourcing, Project Management, WLOS and internal Labcorp CLS personnel.
- Participate in and/or lead process improvement initiatives to drive operational efficiency
Skills:
Minimum a bachelor degree in a scientific field
Demonstrated expertise in project management, change management and influencing without authority
Minimum 2 years of clinical trial management, vendor management or client relationship management
Knowledge of drug development and central laboratories
Proficient in Excel
Very quality minded with high focus on details
great communicator as well internally as externally including client facing
Good time management and being able to manage several priorities at the same time.
Problem resolution mind and team player
Proficient in English, as well speaking as writing and reading
