Overview

DCF Family Services Residential Licensing & Special Investigations Unit is recruiting for an Interim Family Services Worker. This position resides within the central office Residential Licensing & Special Investigations Unit. The position is home based. It will be centrally located to serve both the north and south teams but there is an expectation of regular statewide travel. Duties include a broad range of social work activities. The unit's workers oversee licensing and regulation of foster homes, child placing agencies for foster care and adoption, residential treatment programs, and Commissioner designated shelters while also responding to child abuse allegations within these settings and within the additional settings of child care and schools. The candidate can expect to engage in Chapter 49 child safety interventions, complete home studies for the Interstate Compact for Placement of Children, assess and license foster and kinship foster care homes, perform regulatory licensing assessments and interventions in all regulated facilities, and maintain an ongoing and collaborative relationship with Family Services district office staff and other state departmental agencies. This is an interim position with an anticipated end date of November 30th, 2024.

AHS BACKGROUND CHECKS: Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. Environmental Factors

Duties are performed in a variety of setting ranging from departmental offices to client homes to courtrooms. Considerable field travel is required, for which private means of transportation must be available. Crisis situations may arise at any hour and may require evening or weekend responses. Incumbents predictably encounter high levels of stress and emotional situations, strong differences of opinion, and potentially exposure to physical danger. Class incumbents may be required to be on available or standby status during night, weekend, and holiday hours.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in social work.

OR

Bachelor's degree AND eighteen (18) months of human services casework, including at least six months with a child or youth services caseload where duties included direct responsibility for client intake, assessment, plan development, monitoring, service procurement, and case closure in a formal human services delivery system.

OR

Satisfactory completion of 12 to 18 months experience as a Family Services Worker trainee in DCF.
