    Summary

    As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you sit at the intersection of engineering and go-to-market. You're the technical owner of customer outcomes — hands-on in the code, embedded in the customer relationship. This high-bar engineering role owns customer onboarding and site-speed success end-to-end. You will be expected to run high-profile e-commerce storefront launches completely independently.

    This is not a support role. You'll be debugging JavaScript in production, writing transform scripts, configuring caching rules, and troubleshooting complex CDN behavior across Shopify, SFCC (Salesforce Commerce Cloud), and custom storefronts. You'll own the full technical lifecycle from onboarding through optimization, working directly with merchant engineering teams and translating their stack into our client’s platform.

    The job in one sentence: investigate a customer's e-commerce storefront, design and QA the caching configuration that makes it faster without breaking it, launch it, prove the speed, and lead the customer conversations, including the hard ones.

    What you’ll be doing:

    • Pre-trial site investigation (Shopify / Salesforce Commerce Cloud)

    • Cache-safety design — what's safe to serve from cache without showing one shopper another's data

    • Launch QA and post-launch speed validation

    • Live diagnosis of performance and caching incidents; escalate genuine platform bugs to engineering with evidence

    • Technical customer calls, including delivering bad news plainly

    • Own the final "safe to serve" call on every configuration before it ships

    Qualifications and Requirements:

    Must-Haves (all required)

    • HTTP caching depth — configured or debugged a CDN/edge (Cloudflare, Fastly, Akamai, Varnish), not just used one

    • Performance measurement — Core Web Vitals / RUM; questions a metric before acting on it

    • Reads real frontend code — JS/DOM; Shopify Liquid or SFCC a plus

    • Live arithmetic — comfortable doing rough traffic/capacity math out loud

    • Investigation discipline — forms a theory first, checks simple explanations first

    • Launch ownership — owned a customer-facing launch or migration end to end

    • Customer judgment — delivers bad news plainly, without blaming and without folding

    • Roughly 5+ years, at least 2 customer-facing Logistics

    • Advanced English

    • 4+ hours daily overlap with US Eastern business hours (live US customer calls — must-have, not preference)

    • Camera-on and screen-share for live sessions

    Key Non-Negotiables:

    • HTTP Caching Mastery: Deep knowledge of cache keys, expiry, purging, cookies, and how caches serve the wrong thing.

    • Performance Skepticism: Knowing what speed metrics actually measure and questioning dashboard data.

    • Storefront Code Inspection: Ability to open a live page’s raw HTML/JS and spot personal data baked into it that would break under caching.

    • Live Arithmetic Comfort: Ability to perform rough traffic and capacity math out loud on a whiteboard mid-conversation.

    • Investigation Discipline: Forming a technical hypothesis before touching code.

    • Launch Ownership: Verifiable history of carrying a high-stakes customer-facing launch or migration end-to-end.

    • Uncompromising Customer Judgment: Comfort telling a customer tough technical truths plainly without blaming or folding.

    Not a Fit:

    • Pure backend with no frontend exposure

    • Pure frontend with no HTTP/infrastructure depth

    • Performance-marketing / SEO without hands-on engineering

    • Anyone unwilling to do live working sessions
