The Product Design team is an influential team that steers the future product design of the Saturn application. Our Designers work closely with our founders, leaders, and cross-functional Product partners (Product Management, Growth, UXR, Data Science and Engineering) to create a comprehensive roadmap that delights our community.

The Role:
We’re looking for a Head of Design to join our team. This role has an outsized impact on our user experience and the product’s evolution. You will be expected to be a “player-coach”. Responsibilities will range from growing the design team, managing and upskilling product designers, designing by example – spending at least 40% of your time as an individual contributor developing features yourself, proposing ideas to refining interaction details and improving Saturn’s product. Your work will directly impact how millions of young people plan their day and interact with their friends and community!
What You’ll Do:
- Oversee the creative direction of Saturn’s product
- Manage, coach, and provide directed feedback to product designers
- Conceptualize, design, and prototype innovative new features, building alignment with critical cross-functional stakeholders, particularly product management and leadership
- Deeply understand user needs and continuously improve existing features
- Improve and direct all parts of the design process like, initial research, brainstorming, product design, visual design, design critiques, sprints, engineering hand-off, polish and delivery
- Hire designers to scale the team as Saturn scales
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Outstanding visual design skills
- Experience influencing teams and organizations through strategic thinking and communication
- Knowledge and passion for mobile app design, interaction design and design systems
- Ability to prototype interactive mobile experiences
- Self-starter with ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- You use a data-informed approach to compliment design thinking
- You have a growth mindset, willingness to consistently push the limits to grow the overall business
- You have a desire to build for the long term, valuing patterns and structures that allow for flexibility in an evolving product
Qualifications:
- BA / BS degree or equivalent years of experience
- 5+ years of relevant mobile Product Design experience
- 3+ years of people management experience managing product designers including mid and senior-level designers
- A strong portfolio with past examples of mobile and consumer tech products
- Expert proficiency in Figma
- Not required, but highly valuable bonus skills and experience: motion design, illustration, familiarity with revenue ad products
This role offers a competitive compensation package with an estimated annual salary range of $220,000 to $260,000, exclusive of bonuses, commissions, and equity. Actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to demonstrated skill set, years and depth of relevant experience, and some role-dependent factors. We welcome direct conversations with each candidate about compensation in all of our initial calls. We are committed to considering individual factors and welcoming direct conversations about compensation.
Saturn embraces both a hybrid and fully remote work environment. Those team members who live locally come together to collaborate in the New York City office on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. We also have fully remote employees across several time zones. This role is based in New York City.
