Who You Are
Brightwheel is looking for a Head of Legal to join our team. As the founding member of the Legal team, you will work cross functionally to build trusted advisor relationships with our executive leadership team, department leaders and internal teams. You will create, improve and streamline legal processes that will serve as the foundation for the future of this team.
What You'll Do
- You will work cross functionally with business teams across the company to analyze legal risks and devise creative and efficient solutions
- You will build trusted relationships with all internal teams and create and/or improve internal processes to help both the legal function as well as the business generally streamline, simplify and efficiently execute agreements
- You will engage in contract review and negotiation while supporting the creation and expansion of contract templates and terms of use to reflect new and existing products and services
- You will proactively identify emerging legal and regulatory risks for the business team; support company compliance and the delivery of risk-adjusted advice on pertinent legal matters viewed through business lens
- You will remain up-to-date on relevant product and AI space to ensure an ongoing ability to provide sound marketing compliance advice
- You will manage corporate governance matters
- You will manage stock financings and administer equity incentive plans
Qualifications, Skills, & Abilities
- JD from an ABA-accredited law school
- 7+ years of corporate law experience
- Active bar membership with a preference to register as in-house counsel in California
Preferred Qualifications
- In-house counsel experience (ideally in tech)
- Experience working for a top-tier law firm
- Experience representing mature private companies
- Experience with securities law compliance
- Experience with complex corporate structures and transactions

For cash compensation, brightwheel sets standard ranges for all roles based on function, level, and geographic location, benchmarked against similar-stage growth companies. Multiple factors determine final offer amounts, including geographic location, candidate experience, and expertise.
