Job Description

ROLE PURPOSE: Child sponsorship is a fundraising mechanism that enables individuals to support children, their families and entire communities through donations that are then used to directly support specific children that are sponsored. This is managed centrally and means that individual donors will receive information and communications from the specific child they have decided to sponsor. Save the Children made the decision to change this type of fundraising and as a result a project is needs to effectively manage this transition and ensure any associated impacts on fundraising, individual communities these sponsored children are a part of and staff are properly understood, planned for and managed to ensure the transition runs smoothly and results in even better outcomes for children.

Towards the end of 2023, a feasibility study was completed to assess the approach needed to the changes for Individual Child Sponsorship including the following key components: -

· Impact for Children

· Impact on Country Office Operations

· Future Fundraising Models including alternative Sponsorship models

· Impact on systems used to support Individual Child Sponsorship

· Timeline required to manage required changes based on decisions on option to move forwards

The role of the Individual Child Sponsorship Transformation Project lead will be to initiate and deliver on our agreed way forwards concluded as part of the feasibility assessment. This will including ensuring we have clarity on the full scope of the work to complete including the associated strategy, plan and resourcing. The Project Lead will need to work with leaders from across the organisation including the business teams and TDIT Management Team to define and put in place the required governance to oversee the project and support decision making as well as establishing reference groups to ensure essential SME input is provided at every stage of the project. The Project Lead will also need to ensure that resources required to deliver the project are confirmed, recruited and onboarded and that they are effectively managed to deliver against the plans defined. It will be essential for the Project Lead to identify and mitigate risks and issues, ensure a robust comms and engagement plan is defined and implemented and that costs are properly budgeted and managed throughout the lifetime of the project.

As part of this role, the Project Lead will be responsible for establishing project management practices, utilising SCAs Project Lifecycle and Change Approach, managing relationships with key stakeholders and driving continuous improvements. Key stakeholders from directly impacted Members (SCUS, SC Italy, SC Hong Kong, SC South Korea and SC Mexico) as well as Save the Children International (SCI) will be key to effectively deliver on the project and ensure the differing needs of these core groups are properly managed.

Prior experience of managing an operating model transformation is essential and experience of working with fundraising teams would be a very valuable addition.

On occasions if the situation requires it, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: Director of Transformation Development and Deputy CTO

Staff reporting to this post: ~Managing a team of 6

Direct: ~4

Indirect: ~2

Budget Responsibilities: Expected budget in the range of ~$2-3m (lifetime of the project)

Role Dimensions: This initiative is highly complex and will require engagement with a complex group of stakeholders across all levels including SLT from across the movement.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY :

· Project Leadership: Including direct and indirect management of team members and accountability to the CTO and SLT from impacted Members on delivery of the project

· Governance and Senior Stakeholder Engagement: Define, implement and manage governance and engagement with wider senior leaders as well as setting up and managing reference groups to ensure input from key individuals has a forum for the duration of the project

· Planning and Reporting: Including ensuing alignment with standard Project and Change Methodologies and associated Portfolio Management requirements

· Budget Management: Define and monitor ongoing management of the budget for the project, ensuring compliance with required processes and any issues are escalated and managed effectively in a timely way

· Future State Definition: Detailed definition of the future operating model and actions required to achieve the required change including all impacts on people (programme participants, partners and staff), processes, data and technology

· Dependency Management: Working effectively with wider initiatives and functions to ensure dependencies are understood and actively managed with clear owners and accountability ensured

· Problem Solving: All projects face challenges along the way and the Project Lead will need to take a hands on role to identify issues and ensure they are effectively managed through to resolution and any subsequent impacts are reported to governance in a timely way

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent work experience
  • Understanding of a structured Project methodology (e.g. PRINCE2) or accredited Project Management training (APM or PMI) including experience leading a project using such a methodology

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential

  • An extensive track record of successfully managing large and complex projects and programmes that include systems, processes and operating model changes
  • Demonstrable experience and in-depth knowledge of programme and project practices and standards
  • A proven ability to deliver projects on time / on budget, using project management processes and tools including risk management, benefits management, financial management and quality assurance
  • A proven ability to apply excellent analytical and problem solving skills, and to work collaboratively to deliver of effective solutions to project related issues. This will include taking on hands on analysis activities to support the wider team as required

· Highly developed organisational awareness and ability to understand any sensitivities within a complex multi-stakeholder structure; and think creatively and strategically to overcome obstacles to cooperation and progress

  • Strong team leadership abilities with the ability to motivate and mobilise individuals outside their reporting line
  • Excellent communication skills (written & oral English), including the ability to communicate and influence at all levels of the organisation
  • Able to demonstrate instances of initiative that have delivered organisational benefits

Desirable:

  • Experience working with a fundraising function in an INGO or equivalent
  • Proficiency in a second core language of Save the Children (French, Spanish, Portuguese or Arabic
  • Non-profit sector knowledge/experience

Compensation

Save the Children is offering the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:

  • Geo 1 - NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $84,150 – $94,050 base salary
  • Geo 2 - Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $76,500 – $85,500 base salary
  • Geo 3 - Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $68,850 – $76,950 base salary

The salary ranges listed above are for US based candidates. For candidates located outside of the US, salary ranges will be based on the salary scales of the local employer of record.

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location (more information on job structure is available here). Employee may be eligible for an incentive program.
