The Role

The Pathology team in Utrecht is looking for a new intern to work on a student project involving detection of complement deposition in human tissue.

Responsibilities

  • Development and performance of new and state-of-the-art molecular pathology techniques to detect and quantify protein expression in normal and diseased tissues, using single/multiplex IHC/IF and proximity ligation assays on automated platforms (Leica Bond / Ventana Discovery).
  • Generation of microscopic slide scans using standard bright field and fluorescence whole slide scanners and performance of quantitative image analysis.
  • Translation of scientific questions into experimental plans and manage these into wet-lab activities.
  • Support on the reporting of scientific results in reports.

Requirements

  • The candidate has a Bachelor's degree or equivalent and is currently pursuing a Master's degree (connected to a Dutch university) in a relevant area, e.g. biomedical sciences or biomedical engineering, molecular biology, life sciences, immunology, or similar.
  • Knowledge and understanding of molecular pathology techniques
  • Ability to work successfully in a fast-paced environment in collaboration with a diverse group of scientists and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to be proactive, enthusiastic and goal oriented.
  • Strong communication English skills, both oral and written.
