About the role:BlueWave has an immediate opening for a Manager of Solar Development who resides in and has the ability to travel throughout New York State to oversee day to day project execution, including all permitting filings, contract negotiation and execution, management of project consultants and internal analysts, coordination with other teams and management of project budgets. *Candidate must reside in or be willing to relocate to Upstate or Western New York*
What you'll do:
Lead the development of Solar PV opportunities in New York (and other markets as needed)
Identify crucial developments and trends that affect the viability of the Company’s current and future NY project development pipeline
Support project acquisitions, as well as real estate negotiations as carried out by the larger Development and Site Acquisition teams
Negotiate contracts, agreements and other project development documents with external consultants and outside parties
Supervise/manage analysts assigned to projects within your portfolio
Represent BlueWave within the development team including interactions with investors, engineers, contractors, consultants, landowners, permitting authorities and customers; manage all outside parties to achieve favorable results for projects under development
Utilize our project management, document control and MIS tools to control and report on project progress
Oversee and take responsibility for project budgets, schedules, permitting, incentive application and tax abatement activities
Become familiar with all project documentation, regulatory requirements and milestones, while monitoring project progress against those requirements
Research and advise on market trends and strategy
Provide quantitative analytical support for key project development decisions
Prepare internal and external documents/presentations
Represent BlueWave at meetings at local, state, regional and utility levels as needed
Collaborate with internal teams such as grid integration, legal, offtake, engineering, construction, operations and government affairs
Support the Company’s culture of teamwork and collaboration by organizing and participating in Company and volunteer events
- At least 2-3 years of energy project development experience; familiarity with NYS development strongly preferred
- Strong working understanding of real estate law and the project entitlement process
- Experience negotiating key agreements, preferably with landowners, vendors and municipalities
- Basic technical understanding of solar PV and electrical grid infrastructure
- Self-starter that can catch up to speed quickly
- Proficiency with standard project management tools and financial modeling in Excel
- Familiarity with general project finance underwriting principles and DCF analysis
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Able to think creatively to help streamline operations
- A great attitude and ability to be flexible
- Valid US driver’s license
- Based in New York State with the ability to travel throughout NYS to perform site visits as needed
- Bachelor’s or Advanced Degree in a related field
- Background in or familiarity with civil engineering a plus
- Familiarity with New York land permitting processes
- Prior experience developing solar plus storage and/or storage-only projects a plus
- Supervisory or management experience
- Familiarity or prior experience working with electric utilities
- Prior experience developing community solar projects and/or obtaining NYSERDA incentives would be a plus
