We are seeking a highly experienced and dynamic full-time Managing Editor, Creative to manage the day-to-day production from concept to publish of creative projects and series that are branded, sponsored, and/or commercial-focused. This includes live events, short- and long-form docu-style videos and explainers, TV series, sizzle reels, teasers and trailers, marketing assets, and more.

The successful candidate will also lead a small creative team that includes an Art Director and will oversee the in-house style and design for both print and digital platforms, performing quality control and ensuring visual standards and guidelines are met and maintained throughout all media within the newsroom and elsewhere so there is a consistent visual voice across all materials, including video, photo and graphics.

This person has a creative flair and technical proficiency with a deep understanding of visual storytelling for news media that engages with an American audience, ensuring alignment with the organization's vision and goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee development and production of original special projects and series that are branded, sponsored, and/or commercial-focused from conception to post and be responsible for developing ideas, assigning work, editing and reviewing content from a small team while also ensuring deadlines and editorial standards are met.
  • Manage multiple creative projects simultaneously, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest creative standards optimized for various platforms.
  • Plan, produce and lead the design and production of static and motion graphic, animation, video, photo and graphic templates for editors, logos, illustrations and other visual assets, ensuring consistency and high visual quality and standards across all media
  • Maintain the in-house style guide for print and digital content along with the Art Director; manage updates and changes as different projects and needs come along
  • Leverage emergent AI tools to create images, video, graphics and animation that enhance quality and productivity; Work with Multimedia team operations to test new tools that become available
  • Collaborate with editorial, social, sales and product teams to develop creative strategies for branded, sponsored, and commercial content that aligns with audience interests and commercial objectives. Regularly communicate and work with internal and external stakeholders
  • Mentor and develop team members, fostering a collaborative, creative, and high-performing environment. Provide feedback and guidance on their projects and assignments.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and technological advancements, incorporating innovative design and video production techniques to keep the newsroom at the forefront of digital media
  • Fact check and ensure content is of the highest possible standard; stay up to date with copyright compliance and permissions
  • Perform any other reasonable duties as necessary to meet the needs of the business.

Qualifications

  • Several years of experience in a creative leadership role within a multimedia environment, preferably in a newsroom setting.
  • Strong up-to-date portfolio showcasing expertise in video and photo storytelling (including branded/sponsored content), design - including static and motion graphics - maps, charts and interactive data, all produced to a high editorial standard and published by a reputable organization
  • Advanced experience planning, producing managing video series and projects for creative storytelling, branded and social media content for a media company with the ability to manage deadlines and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Highly skilled in design and video editing software including Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Illustrator, and Photoshop
  • Proficient in creating 2D Graphics, coloring and entire video production process
  • Familiarity covering U.S. news and trends
  • Familiar with filming live events and production management
  • Knowledge with using social media, Google Trends and other news discovery tools
  • Knowledge of web platforms such as Flourish and Google Earth Studio
  • Able to train and mentor others
  • Must be able to work flexible hours and workflows
  • Must be open to using AI tools to automate tasks, create and animate assets
  • Candidates based in Eastern Time Zone are preferred. Must be able to travel in to the New York office once a month.

Salary range: $70,000 - $100,000
