    About the Role

    As a Payroll Specialist, you will play a critical role in delivering comprehensive payroll services to multiple clients while ensuring payroll accuracy, regulatory compliance, and exceptional customer service. This hands-on role combines payroll processing expertise with client advisory responsibilities, team mentorship, and process improvement initiatives.

    Ideal candidates are experienced payroll professionals who enjoy solving complex payroll challenges, mentoring colleagues, and working independently in a flexible remote environment. This long-term, part-time opportunity is perfect for professionals seeking to add 10–20 hours per week to an existing consulting or fractional practice.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Process complex multi-state payrolls accurately and on schedule.

    • Manage garnishments, tax withholdings, benefit deductions, and payroll reconciliations.

    • Review payrolls prepared by Payroll Coordinators prior to final submission.

    • Resolve payroll tax notices, agency correspondence, and compliance-related issues.

    • Advise clients on payroll best practices, regulatory compliance, and process optimization.

    • Mentor Payroll Coordinators by providing technical guidance and answering payroll-related questions.

    • Improve payroll workflows, automation, quality controls, and operational efficiency.

    • Onboard new payroll clients, including payroll system setup, implementation, training, and ongoing support.

    • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.

    • Deliver exceptional client service while ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing. Requirements

    • Minimum of 4 years of progressive payroll experience.

    • Hands-on experience using Gusto and advanced payroll software platforms.

    • Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll processing, garnishments, levies, and benefit reconciliations.

    • Comprehensive understanding of federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations.

    • Experience resolving payroll tax notices and government agency correspondence.

    • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC), completed or currently in progress, preferred.

    • Experience mentoring team members and providing technical payroll guidance.

    • Strong analytical, organizational, and client advisory skills.

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    • Ability to work independently in a remote environment.

    • Availability to work approximately 10–20 hours per week on a long-term basis. What We Offer
