This constellation delivers an unprecedented dataset of empirical information via a revolutionary cloud-based platform to authoritative figures in commercial, environmental, and humanitarian sectors. We are both a space company and data company all rolled into one.

About the Role:

As a Product Manager (PM) at Planet, you will lead complex, multi-disciplinary engineering projects using your industry expertise and product vision. You will plan requirements with internal stakeholders including: coordinating input, managing the product roadmap, identifying risks, and clearly communicating them to stakeholders, as well as lead projects through the entire product lifecycle. You have familiarity explaining your analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical trade-offs in product development with engineers.

You will be primarily responsible for the ongoing evolution of Planet’s Tasking products. Within the next year, Planet will have three tasked constellations - high-resolution SkySat and Pelican, and hyperspectral Tanager. You will work across teams on both the imagery and platform side to ensure our customers can easily access high quality imagery products. This role will evolve with the changing needs of our organization and the lifecycle of our constellations. Initially, your primary responsibilities will include gathering requirements and setting goals to make Planet’s SkySat imagery ideally suited to our customer’s use cases and compatible with upcoming Pelican imagery. As that constellation moves further into its lifecycle, your work will transition to a cross-constellation role with a heavier emphasis on platform, access, and reliability. This is an excellent opportunity for a PM that has interest and/or experience in both Earth Observation and also software platforms and is flexible, adaptable, and looking for a role that has tremendous growth and learning potential. You will work very closely with the other tasking product managers, as well as engineering, satellite operational teams, and commercial teams, to gather feedback and clearly articulate requirements and priorities.

This role is central to Planet’s mission to image the entire Earth every day and make global change visible, accessible, and actionable.

Impact You’ll Own:

  • Oversee continuous development of and improvements to our flagship high resolution imagery product (SkySat).
  • Build and maintain the SkySat Product Roadmap, including working closely with the engineering team and commercial teams to prioritize the most high-value product improvements at this point in its lifecycle.
  • Work closely with the Pelican product manager to ensure continuity in our high-resolution product line.
  • Collaborate with the delivery Platform team to capture requirements and oversee integration of tasked imagery.
  • Ensure consistent execution of product lifecycle process from concept to launch through management of people and projects.
  • Support the Tasking Platform Team in continuing to build and develop our product so customers can more easily and reliably task our data.
  • Provide Product Owner support to the team during Agile ceremonies.

What You Bring:

  • Sound understanding of the benefits and challenges of working with EO data
  • Experience in high resolution satellite imagery applications and characteristics; familiarity with concepts like resolution, radiometry, rectification, 3D modeling, etc.
  • Proven track record of effectively collaborating with Engineering teams (and experience with product development lifecycle and ceremonies)
  • Experience working with and meeting the needs of customers
  • Experience working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment with a proven ability to tackle unique challenges presented by its dynamic conditions
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Growth mindset and willingness to step in where needed
  • Outstanding written and spoken communication skills and organizational skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize appropriately

Benefits While Working at Planet:

  • Additional company winter holidays and regular global days off
