Job Description
About Urban
Founded in 2014, Urban is the UK’s leading massage delivery app. We make it easy to book spa and clinic treatments to your home, delivered by professionals you can trust.
Our mission is to bring a human touch to city life – literally, with treatments like massage – but also in the way we do business. Self-employed pros on Urban take home an average of 70% of the booking fee and are empowered with tools, tech and data to earn more on their terms.
With two feature-rich apps and a user-friendly website, Urban operates in five cities across two countries. We’re proud of our journey so far – 1.3 million treatments delivered, over 500,000 five-star reviews and an average rating of 4.9. Join us as we take our vision to millions more.
Powered by a culture of trust
Behind our success is a team that values innovation, autonomy, and the power of data-driven decisions. We strive for equality, equity and inclusion at every level and encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every criteria.
Let us know of any reasonable adjustments we can make to accommodate your application or interview.
The Product Owner role
The Product Owner is a delivery focused role, supporting Urban’s Product Lead to execute on initiatives that drive the platform’s growth and optimisation for both our user and practitioner communities.
You’ll work closely with a squad of engineers responsible for our web and app platforms, that attract 1,000s of users every day. You’ll directly manage the backlog of product initiatives and ensure that the vision behind a change is translated into a tangible, seamless experience for our users.
Key responsibilities
- Manage the Product development backlog, ensuring our product strategy is translated into clearly defined user stories for our engineering squad to tackle each week.
- Keep our initiatives on track by setting the cadence of deliverables by overseeing our weekly sprint cycle, as well as end-to-end delivery of our broader project initiatives.
- Support the engineering squad with testing of new features before going live to production.
- Define experiments and AB tests to support an effective rollout of new features, ensuring every initiative we introduce drives incremental value for the business.
- Communicate new features effectively to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring everyone is well versed in why we are delivering a change.
- Run analytics with the support of our Data Analyst to help us understand how features are performing and how they can be improved.
- Spearhead user research initiatives alongside the Product Designer and Product Lead, uncovering the details of customer’s and practitioner’s wants and needs.
Right for you if
- You’re curious about how a marketplace ticks “under the hood”, and you’re not afraid to get your hands dirty to find the root cause of a customer problem through analytical measures.
- You’re empathetic towards users, and can be an ambassador for their needs with internal and external stakeholders.
- You’re resourceful, finding shortcuts to test complex solutions to validate value before committing resources.
- You revel working in ambiguity, drawing on available data to form your own hypotheses and action plans.
- You’re comfortable working with cross-functional teams, collaborating with engineers, marketing professionals and customer support staff to meet their needs and drive towards a shared goal.
Requirements
Ideally one of the following:
- At least 2 years experience with a digital business in a Product/Operations/Strategy role, or at least 2 years experience in Management Consulting or other professional services role with a desire to start your career in Product.
- Minimum 2.1 undergraduate degree in any discipline.
- UK-based, and willing to travel into our co-working spaces in London at least once per month.
Product Management experience is not a pre-requisite for this role. However, we do expect you to demonstrate transferable skills from a previous role and a desire to transition into a Product Management career.
Nice to haves:
- Experience working in a consumer marketplace is a plus.
- Experience working in healthtech and/or the wellness industry is a plus
