Job Description

Brown and Caldwell has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Construction Manager to join our Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) Construction Services team! This position offers the opportunity to work with and mentor a team of national experts on technically challenging and innovative remedies. This is a remote based position with travel requirements to manage upcoming projects with the possibility to transition to supporting construction activities and other IPD teams based elsewhere in the U.S.

The Senior Construction Manager will interact with various stakeholders from the project team(s) including representatives from clients, regulatory agencies, construction managers and contractors. The successful candidate will need to be able to understand and interpret design documents (technical specifications, construction drawings, etc.), produce daily field documentation such as reports, be able to communicate with the client and BC’s design team, observe and document field changes to the design documents, work closely with a diverse, multidisciplinary project team, manage change, be able to perform field work such as construction oversight/construction management, and interface with the BC design team, field crews and clients as needed. Travel and extended in-field assignments is required.

This position will be responsible to assist with the development and standardization of our IPD Construction Management services.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Serving as the IPD construction services on-site representative.
  • Oversee onsite inspection services of remediation projects.
  • Collaborate with a Design Project Manager to address design issues; coordinate with Contractor’s project manager; obtain daily updates on project issues and status from Construction Inspectors; report issues to BC design team.
  • Oversee and direct construction projects from conception to completion.
  • Prepare and review design and bidding documents for completeness, constructability, and clarity.
  • Generate project correspondence, including responses to Contractor correspondence in a timely manner to avoid delay.
  • Oversee construction execution and the Contractors’ compliance with the Critical Path Method (CPM) schedules and address deficiencies.
  • Oversee all onsite and offsite construction to monitor compliance with building and safety regulations along with quality construction standards and techniques.
  • Be familiar with the project plans, specifications, and all project-specific environmental permits to assure contractor adheres to all of their requirements.
  • Coordinate and resolve issues in the field with clients/owners, consultants, contractors, designers and regulatory agencies and the affected public.
  • Prepare daily reports documenting weather, equipment, manpower, and construction activities, and daily progress photos, as well as monthly progress reports for project stakeholders.
  • Lead and/or assist with commissioning, testing, and start-up of process systems/equipment or facilities for turning over to the owner's personnel.
  • Prepare effective and accurate record documents and all project, permit, and contract closeout documentation.
  • Meet contractual conditions of performance including budgets, schedule, and quality.
  • Mentor, supervise and provide direction for less experienced staff.
  • Supervise and coordinate construction management staff, including field inspectors, office support staff and testing subconsultants with responsibility for quality construction in accordance with plans and specifications.
  • Oversee and development of Construction Management Standards for IPD Construction Services project.
  • Work with Business Unit and Enterprise leadership to develop and implement a sustainable IPD Construction Management Service.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum ten years of related experience performing construction oversight, construction inspection, and facility start-up.
  • Minimum ten years of increasingly responsible, professional experience in the construction administration of municipal infrastructure water and wastewater facilities.
  • Experience with developing and implementing mitigation measures involving schedule slippage and cost overruns.
  • Experience serving as a Construction Manager on Alternative Delivery Projects including serving as representative on alternative delivery projects including remediation and/or solid waste sites, industrial water/wastewater, and/or municipal water/wastewater.
  • Experience with management of Contractors including schedule and budgets on remediation and/or solid waste sites.
  • Experience with various remediation technologies and their components.
  • Strong organizational and technical skills required.
  • Strong verbal and written (technical writing) communication skills required.
  • Ability to provide design\consultation in specialized areas, make decisions and solve problems.
  • Knowledge of construction management processes, means and methods.
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment.
  • Ability to successfully manage and deliver on multiple tasks with competing priorities.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record required.
  • Ability to travel and perform in-field assignments:
    • Ability to work for short periods of time in hot and cold weather (occasionally extreme conditions).
    • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment at sites including hard hats, steel toed boots (or other approved toe protection), safety glasses, safety vests, respirators, etc.
    • Ability to stand for several hours observing and documenting field conditions or critical construction operations.
    • Ability to walk slowly around sites of varying size that may have areas of uneven, muddy, and/or rocky ground to perform inspections and take photographs.
    • Ability to remain alert and vigilant while working around construction equipment and be able to walk swiftly for a short distance to clear an area where a potential hazard is identified.
    • Ability to climb stairs (2-3 flights) or ladders (up to 24 feet typically) to access structures for visual inspection.
    • Lifting – objects on job sites typically less than 30 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Construction and design background highly preferred as well as having worked in a resident/field/quality assurance oversight capacity on projects that involved environmental remediation and construction.
  • Experience with sediment remediation projects, preparation and/or implementation of environmental permits, and/or construction of landfill caps and/or subsurface barrier walls a plus but not required.

Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location A: $115,000 -$156,000

Location B: $126,000 -$172,000

Location C: $138,000 -$188,000
