We are a successful and remote-first startup company, building a medical e-learning platform (知网), Apps and other products for healthcare students and professionals. We are a team of 30 full-time employees and 100+ freelance employees spread across 13 countries on different continents around the world. We started out nearly 12 years ago and have been profitable since the early days. We are now expanding into the Chinese market. Therefore, we are looking for a remote senior engineer with both DevOps and Fullstack skills to build up the Chinese learning platform. You will be the first hire and therefore we require a broad development skill set as well as management capabilities. This includes experience with Ruby on Rails, Javascript, HTML and CSS.
You will:
- Set up the cloud infrastructure in China and manage it
- Adapt our ruby on rails project to the requirements in China (sign-up flow, payments, etc.)
- Develop custom functionality for the Chinese market
- Work closely with the Chinese leadership team as well as the existing development team at Kenhub
We expect from you:
- Strong experience in DevOps, cloud infrastructure, and system administration
- Solid knowledge of our tech stack or the ability to quickly adapt to it
- Experience with automation tools such as Terraform and Ansible
- Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell
- Great experience with Ruby on Rails
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent speaking and writing skills in English
Even though we work remotely, you won't feel left alone. We work as a team and pair up on a daily basis.
Our tech stack: Ruby on Rails 7, PG, Redis, Sidekiq, Docker, Javascript (ES6), React, SASS, HAML
Our current hosting and deployment infrastructure (which most likely need substitutes in China): AWS, Terrafrom, Ansible, Cloudflare CDN, etc.
Some of the other tools we use: Slack, Github, Trello, Zoom, tmux, Amplitude, Datadog, customer.io, Stripe, GhostInspector, etc.
