GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Senior Director of Child Wellness Services leads and oversees multiple Head Start and Early Head Start programs. Responsibilities include supervising and directing program and administrative functions related to child disabilities, mental health, behavioral intervention, and health and nutrition. Ensuring strict compliance with State and Federal regulations, as well as adherence to Head Start Program Performance Standards, the role focuses on delivering top-tier services that promote the holistic development and well-being of children and families within our community.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Administer and sustain the Head Start and Early Head Start grants through compliance of State and Federal regulations and adherence to the Head Start Program Performance Standards.
  2. Provide oversight of Mental Health, Disabilities, Behavior Intervention, and Health and Nutrition Services team including budget management, resource allocation, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  3. Ensure program effectiveness through ongoing evaluation, data analysis, and outcome measurement.
  4. Provide guidance, mentoring, and foster a culture of continuing professional growth, collaboration, accountability, and performance feedback among team members as part of the commitment to excellence.
  5. Supervise the Director of Mental Health Services, the Director of Disabilities, Director of Behavior Intervention, and the Director of Health and Nutrition.
  6. In collaboration with the Vice President of Head Start & Early Head Start and the Head Start Management team, establish performance goals and participate in effective and efficient program planning including program operating systems, Policies and Procedures, Self-Assessment, Program Information Report and Improvement Plan, T/TA Plan, Long and Short Term Goals, and other Head Start initiatives that ensure the delivery of high-quality programs.
  7. Cultivate and maintain partnerships with community organizations, government agencies, and stakeholders to support child disabilities, mental health, behavior intervention, and health and nutrition services to ensure program effectiveness and sustainability.
  8. Secure contracts with consultants and other appropriate community organizations to provide services to children and/or families.
  9. Support the implementation of best practices in trauma-informed care.
  10. Assist in creating the Annual Report, HS/EHS Grant Applications, Program Budget, and Community Needs Assessment as needed.
  11. Assist in preparing and submitting accurate and timely reports required by funding sources, the Board of Trustees, Policy Council, and any other required parties.
  12. Maintain continuous lines of communication, keeping the Vice President of HS/EHS and Chief Operating Officer informed of all-important issues.
  13. Advocate for the needs of children and families served by the programs and represent ECS in community forums and events.
  14. Stay informed about current trends, research, and policy developments related to early childhood education, mental health, behavior intervention, health and nutrition, and trauma-informed care.
  15. Maintain regular staff meetings with the Child Wellness Services Team.
  16. Meet with parents as needed.
  17. Serve as a liaison between the community resources and ECS.
  18. All other duties as requested to maintain the success of ECS.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:

  • This position reports to Vice President of Head Start.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or a related field necessary for licensure.
  • Licensure as a psychologist (Ph.D. or Psy.D.), licensed professional counselor (LPC), licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), or another relevant professional licensure.
  • Training in clinical supervision to become or practice as a Qualified Supervisor.
  • Minimum 5 years clinical experience, and 2 years of providing clinical supervision.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Experience working with early intervention, behavior support, and/or child mental health
  • Knowledge of social services and community resources to link families with appropriate agencies and services
  • Ability to motivate people to high levels of commitment and performance
  • Ability to mentor, train, and counsel effectively
  • Ability to work with other employees and the public in a tactful and diplomatic manner
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and emotional maturity in crisis and in normal situation
  • Commitment to strengthen families but with ultimate commitment to the well-being of the child.
  • Ability to perform with little direct supervision
  • Knowledge of applicable safety and abuse-reporting procedures
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products at an intermediate to advanced level
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Ability to plan and organize work as well as maintain records and prepare reports
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work in fast-paced environment

LICENSES, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATIONS:

  • Valid driver’s license and proof of automobile coverage
  • Satisfactory Driving Record (as outlined in Vehicle Driving Policy)
  • Complete a minimum of 15 clock hours of professional development per year.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

  • Work in a hybrid remote office setting
  • Local travel to multiple sites required
  • Some out-of-town travel, including nights and weekends required

It is important to be mindful of your posture, take regular breaks for stretching or resting your eyes, and maintain appropriate lighting conditions.
  • Movement and Stretching: While not a physical demand in the traditional sense, it is crucial to incorporate movement and stretching into your remote work routine. Regular breaks to stand up, walk, stretch, or exercise can improve circulation, reduce muscle tension, and enhance overall well-being.
  • Self-care and Wellness: Working remotely can blur the line between work and personal life. Prioritizing self-care and creating a healthy work-life balance is crucial. It is important to maintain regular exercise, eat balanced meals, and practice self-care activities to support both your physical and mental well-being.

As with any office-based or remote work, it is important to be mindful of your own health and comfort. Creating a suitable workspace, practicing good ergonomics, and incorporating healthy habits will contribute to a positive work environment and promote overall job satisfaction.
