The Opportunity

Do you want to drive the future of technology policy in California? Adobe is seeking an innovative, self-starter who understands the importance of public policy and government advocacy and the impact it has on business and technology. We are looking for an individual to lead government advocacy in California and develop public policy to drive key initiatives, leverage internal expertise and leadership to engage with public officials to provide valuable insight and expertise on policy issues that directly impact our company.

Collaborating with Adobe's business units and subject matter experts, you will strategize, develop policy, and deliver on initiatives to ensure that public sector decision-making complements private sector innovation to help enhance economic growth and improve citizens’ lives.

What you'll Do

Develop strategy and achieve government relations advocacy objectives and public policy priorities for Adobe before state and local governments in California. This includes driving policy objectives around AI.

Monitor policy issues of importance to Adobe in California; educate Adobe executives and business leaders on these issues and when appropriate, empower them as spokespeople and facilitate high-level meetings between Adobe executives and policymakers, regulators and state agencies to promote and advocate for Adobe’s policy positions.

  • This includes staffing visits, preparing documents, briefing executives and updating relevant stakeholders and executives on hot topics.
  • Develop and lead a regular cadence of communication to Adobe executives and business leaders to inform them of key policy developments impacting Adobe’s business.

Build a positive regulatory environment in California to enable innovation and growth for Adobe. Develop and implement public affairs strategies to communicate policy positions to key constituencies such as the Governor’s office, the state legislature, state agencies and relevant media in coordination with Adobe’s communications team to build relationships and strengthen our reputation. Catalyze trade associations, industry partners, non-profit groups, and others to build support for Adobe’s policy positions.

Lead a team of consultants and Adobe employees to deeply understand and advocate for Adobe’s policy positions.

Work collaboratively with the Adobe public sector team to ensure alignment between core business priorities, public policy goals and “go to market” strategies.

Work with our legal team, ethical innovation team and the business to create public policy and drive program development in key areas that are relevant to California and globally. Create, monitor, and anticipate new policy developments around issues in portfolio.

Proactively work to identify and mitigate emerging policy risks and capitalize on policy opportunities in these areas.

Develop messaging and content to support advocacy engagements and policymaking meetings.

Build coalitions with key policy stakeholders including companies, trade associations and civil society groups.

Think creatively to influence innovative approaches to advocacy and public policy development in California.

What you need to succeed

A Bachelor’s degree is required preferably in a relevant subject area (Political Science, Public Policy, Business, etc.).

10 years +(or equivalent experience) with state lobbying through legislative or executive branch experience or representing a large company or association in California.

Understanding and experience in working with senior executives to achieve public policy strategies in California.

Experience in developing strategy and delivering on public policy initiatives.

Proven understanding of and background in advocacy and public policy development pertaining to technology issues and policies such as, AI, privacy, education, business regulation, procurement and government contracting,

Preferred qualifications

Highly effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills; ability to efficiently and comfortably interact at highest corporate, state and local government levels.

Self-starter with consistent track record developing strategy, successfully working with a wide array of functional groups across an organization and cultures to implement and deliver on key objectives.

Capable of working both independently and as part of a broader team with internal and external partners as needed.

Ability to influence and persuade others is required. Must be flexible and demonstrate excellent judgment/decision-making skills, and political acuity.

Maintain the highest personal levels of ethical conduct, confidentiality and integrity, with the strongest professional reputation in the industry.

Proven ability to build and cultivate effective relationships and networks with others.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several  U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The U.S. pay range for this position is $125,200 -- $254,800 annually. Pay within this range varies by work location and may also depend on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for the job location during the hiring process.

At Adobe, for sales roles starting salaries are expressed as total target compensation (TTC = base + commission), and short-term incentives are in the form of sales commission plans. Non-sales roles starting salaries are expressed as base salary and short-term incentives are in the form of the Annual Incentive Plan (AIP).

In addition, certain roles may be eligible for long-term incentives in the form of a new hire equity award.
