Job Description

About the Senior Product Designer at Headspace:

At Headspace, our mission is to provide every person access to lifelong mental health support. We work to address the three biggest challenges to getting help today - stigma, access, and cost.

We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer to innovate our Care Provider and Member Support-facing tools and support. In this role, you’ll partner with designers, researchers, care teams, care operations, engineers, data scientists, and product managers to define and create experiences that put Provider and Support needs at the heart of your work. You’ll lead your product design process with both Member and Provider insights and journeys, facilitate collaborative co-design workshops with subject matter experts and stakeholders, design and ship effective, engaging experiences that help Providers grow as practitioners and deliver great care to our Members.

The Senior Product Designer will be responsible for applying a systems-thinking lens to the design of our Provider and Support tools. You’re experienced at mapping the needs of different user groups across a service landscape to seamlessly connect front and back stage experiences. You’ll also be able to move fluidly from strategic research in the field to flows and detailed screens that increase provider efficiency and improve care quality overall.

Lastly, you should bring a passion for personal and societal transformation, for working with others to solve interesting problems, a love for behavioral design, and a desire to build rich, useful digital and human-delivered experiences.

What you will do:

  • Contribute, collaborate and grow with a talented and devoted team to improve the health and happiness of the world
  • Be involved in every step of the design process from research, discovery and ideation, to build and implementation - in creating first class mental health and wellbeing services and features
  • Work day-to-day in a cross-functional team of engineers, product designers, care providers/operators and product managers to build and test new experiences that ensure members consistently receive the highest-quality care while also supporting our provider’s professional growth and wellbeing
  • Rapidly produce multiple concepts and prototypes; knowing when to apply pixel-perfect attention to detail, and when to make low-fi sketches
  • Drive user testing, user interviews and synthesis to identify new opportunities and enable greater improvement of our care delivery
  • Have a direct impact on the future of the Headspace product

What you will bring:

Required Skills:

  • 5+ years of experience using human insights to guide design work from concepts to shipped and scaled experiences
  • Experience working in design consultancies or software product companies
  • Experience designing for internal tools
  • Strong design portfolio that demonstrates a human-centered approach to design and an eye for detail
  • Excellent at facilitating collaborative creative workshops, especially with interdisciplinary teams
  • Strong relationship-building skills to socialize ideas within the organization and external partnerships
  • “Sensemaking” skills to find direction and meaning in quantitative and qualitative data
  • Able to make abductive leaps to originate exciting new concepts that meet human needs

Preferred Skills:

  • 1-2+ years working within mental health, healthcare, meditation or wellbeing services
  • Service design experience
  • Responsive web design experience
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Ability to mentor others
  • Strong business acumen and willingness to take risks

Privacy Statement

All member records are protected according to our Privacy Policy. Further, while employees of Headspace (formerly Ginger) cannot access Headspace products/services, they will be offered benefits according to the company's benefit plan. To ensure we are adhering to best practice and ethical guidelines in the field of mental health, we take care to avoid dual relationships. A dual relationship occurs when a mental health care provider has a second, significantly different relationship with their client in addition to the traditional client-therapist relationship—including, for example, a managerial relationship.

As such, Headspace requests that individuals who have received coaching or clinical services at Headspace wait until their care with Headspace is complete before applying for a position. If someone with a Headspace account is hired for a position, please note their account will be deactivated and they will not be able to use Headspace services for the duration of their employment.

Further, if Headspace cannot find a role that fails to resolve an ethical issue associated with a dual relationship, Headspace may need to take steps to ensure ethical obligations are being adhered to, including a delayed start date or a potential leave of absence. Such steps would be taken to protect both the former member, as well as any relevant individuals from their care team, from impairment, risk of exploitation, or harm.
