The Role

BuzzFeed is seeking a Social Media Strategist to support social video publishing strategy for some of BuzzFeed’s most beloved brands, focusing on cross-platform video publishing strategy for the BuzzFeedCeleb brand and other social publishing initiatives across teams, brands, and verticals. This position will use data analysis to inform decisions and will collaborate closely with operations and video producers to ensure that our content is being released in the most optimal way across video platforms and building meaningful engagement and connection with fans.

The ideal candidate is obsessed with both publishers and content creators in the pop culture and entertainment space on YouTube, Instagram, & TikTok and would be able to understand and summarize (both creatively and analytically) how and why certain videos blow up — where did they take off, what makes them special, why are they worth sharing?

The ideal candidate is:

  • Celeb-obsessed and is familiar with pop culture fandoms, including up-and-coming talent
  • Able to navigate a fast-paced and dynamic work environment with efficiency and maturity while maintaining a standard of brand alignment for all content and accounts
  • Able to collaborate cross-functionally and create a cohesive strategy for the brand across different social platforms

We’re looking for a rockstar who is naturally organized and detail-oriented, enthusiastic about social media and all things BuzzFeed — someone who is a data-obsessed self-starter with excellent judgment and communication skills.

The role will be working West Coast hours (Pacific Time).

You Will

  • Manage content calendars and publish to the BuzzFeedCeleb accounts across social platforms including YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok
  • Collaborate with other members of the social publishing team to build cohesive strategy between video + editorial content on social accounts
  • Manage the social publishing team’s partnership with BuzzFeed Studios marketing team
  • Leverage data analytics to interpret content performance into digestible insights that you will share with brand stakeholders
  • Partner with the Content Analytics team to develop and implement strategies and experiments
  • Work hand-in-hand with BuzzFeedCeleb video leads on audience growth best practices
  • Brainstorm and ideate with content producers based on data, strategy, and platform best practices, assist in generating ideas for YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and more
  • Engage with the BuzzFeedCeleb community across platforms, has an obsession with things people are sharing, liking, recommending and talking about on the internet
  • Acts as an advisor for new initiatives; a respected thought leader to help teams throughout the company crack new content areas and formats
  • Has the foresight to anticipate issues in workflow or content performance and present to manager possible actionable solutions. Able to think outside the day-to-day to find creative scalable solutions (i.e.: work smarter not harder).
  • Create better operational workflows that streamline from content ideation, creation, publishing, and performance analysis across platforms
  • Help maintain the cheery and collaborative BuzzFeed culture with a positive attitudeGuide and support junior members of the team

You Have

  • 2-3 years of experience managing social accounts for major publishers or brands
  • Familiarity with current entertainment and pop culture, particularly Gen Z interests and fandomsSocial media reporting experience and data analysis skills
  • Deep enthusiasm for experimenting with strategy to optimize for key metrics
  • Native user of TIkTok, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter/X
  • Excellent organizational and written/verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of the digital/social landscape and a proven interest in keeping up to date with the latest conversations and trends
