About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to be a key contributor to our Core Platform squad. PushPress Core is our primary platform, encompassing several critical domains such as billing, member management, communications, scheduling, and analytics. In this role, you will work closely with the technical lead and team to design, implement, and maintain robust, scalable, and innovative solutions for the Core platform.
You will collaborate with a team of talented engineers, contributing to the technical direction and implementation of the platform. As a senior member of the Core team, you will lead high-impact projects, take ownership of critical components, and actively lead architectural discussions, code reviews, and mentoring junior engineers. Your work will directly impact thousands of businesses and millions of gym members worldwide.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the design, development, and delivery of needle-moving projects within PushPress Core
  • Take ownership of critical components and features, driving them from concept to launch
  • Develop and optimize Node.js/TypeScript backend services to support our rapid growth
  • Improve performance, security, and reliability of our REST APIs and MySQL/Redis databases
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, promoting engineering best practices
  • Lead architectural discussions and technical decision-making
  • Collaborate with product and design to understand requirements and deliver high-quality features
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of our engineering processes and practices

What you'll need

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, with 2+ years in a senior engineering role
  • Strong proficiency in Node.js, TypeScript, REST APIs, MySQL, and Redis
  • Experience designing and developing scalable and maintainable backend systems
  • Proven ability to lead and deliver high-impact projects from start to finish
  • Familiarity with architectural patterns and best practices for large codebases
  • Ability to mentor and guide junior engineers
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to contribute to technical decision-making
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to work effectively in a team
  • Huge plus: Experience building backends at high-growth startups
