Job Description

The Senior SQL DBA is a key role at Rackspace. You will plan and implement computerized databases, including base definition, structure, documentation, long-range requirements, operational guidelines and protection. You will develop database tools, formulate and monitor policies, procedures and standards relating to database management. We require someone who can propose and implement enhancements that will improve the performance and reliability of the system. From Day 1 you'll be working on the highest-level customers, developing a personal one to one relationship with them.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Reads and interprets monitoring stats and tune database systems and applications for optimal performance.
  • Performs database administration activities including configuration, monitoring, space management, database backup and recovery.
  • Assists with establishing policies and procedures pertaining to database management, security, maintenance and utilization. Sets and monitors standards.
  • Builds tools for customers and internal teams by creating scripts or using software to automate administration tasks and DBA processes.
  • Advises customers on SQL Server best practices and SQL Server Disaster Recovery setups.
  • Participates in sales implementations customer calls to provide advanced knowledge in the purchase of software, hardware or services that can be used to improve the performance of the database server.
  • Collaborates with the product organization to assist in the roll out of new products.
  • Participate in 24X7 production support for SQL Server infrastructure along with senior members of the Database Services Team.
  • Participate in the database on-call rotation.

Skills & Experience

  • Strong understanding of indexes, index management, integrity checks and statistics.
  • Expert in troubleshooting issues related to CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other types of resource contention.
  • Expert in running SQL profile traces to troubleshoot performance issues.
  • Expert knowledge of SQL syntax.
  • Expert knowledge in HA and DR solutions including MS Clustering Services, Database Mirroring, Log Shipping and SQL Replication.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem resolution skills.
  • Expert knowledge of performance tuning at the server and application levels.
  • Expert knowledge in Backup design and support.
  • Expert skill in SQL Server 2005, 2008, 2008R2, 2012.
  • Advanced Programming skills.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills—written and verbal.
  • Experience with production DBA and managing multiple databases.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent communications skills; written, verbal and presentation.
  • Ability to apply varying leadership skills and traits that create solutions and results to unexpected situations.
  • Ability to provide FANATICAL support.
  • A minimum high school diploma/GED and eight years of database related industry experience OR Bachelor’s degree in related field (Computer Science) from an accredited college or university and six years of database related experience.
  • Industry-related certification MCTS, MCITP-DBA.
  • Experience with production DBA and managing multiple databases.
  • Post-graduate education preferred.

Fluent, Bi-lingual (Spanish and English): interviews will be held in English.
- Role can work remotely in the states of Ciudad de Mexico, Jalisco, Nuevo Leon, Aguascalientes, Queretaro, Estado de Mexico and Puebla.
- This opportunity is a permanent remote job, but you need to be based in Mexico at one of the above locations.
