Purpose:

Perform credit analyses of critical FHLBI insurance institution members and assist leading core insurance member credit risk processes to help ERM management in formulating decisions to control the risk these members pose to the FHLBI. This includes measuring, monitoring and evaluating statutory insurance financial information and staying informed of industry trends, macro-economic implications, and relevant events and performance. Perform credit analyses on on other non-depository members as needed. The position will be directly supported by Underwriting’s Insurance Credit Analyst. Assist in other functions of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) department as needed.

Specific Responsibilities:

Financial Analysis & Reporting:

  • Credit Analyses - Perform credit analysis and monitor the financial condition of the FHLBI’s insurance company and non-depository members (and prospective members) utilizing S&P Market Intelligence, quarterly statutory financial reports, Bloomberg, SEC filings, business plans, annual reports and confidential regulatory examination reports. Credit reviews are used to formulate/support credit risk related decisions.
  • Other credit analysis responsibilities include also reviewing and monitoring the financial condition of Supplemental Mortgage and Private Mortgage Insurers contracted by the Mortgage Purchase Department as needed.
  • Financial Research & Reporting - Design reports and interpret the output for use by ERM management to assist in their lending, collateral and underwriting risk decisions pertaining to insurance company and non-depository members maintaining adherence to FHLBI and regulatory credit risk parameters. On an on-going basis, collaborate with other Bank departments and integrate relevant data into existing or newly created reports. As needed, provide relevant reporting to internal FHLBI departments as well as external parties such as the FHFA and state regulators.
  • Obtain and optimize data from automated sources, such as S&P Market Intelligence, Bloomberg, various Bank systems, etc. for reporting and compliance purposes.

Teamwork:

  • Assisted in responsibilities by Underwriting’s Insurance Company Credit Analyst. Provide direction to the insurance credit risk analyst in collaboration with the Associate Director of Underwriting.
  • Coordinate, distribute and review assignments/projects performed by insurance company credit analyst ensuring accurate and timely completion of responsibilities.
  • Responsible for making recommendations to the Associate Director of Underwriting regarding member credit requests, member additions/deletions to the Credit Watch List and Credit Monitoring List and other credit risk related decisions.
  • Maintain internal procedures related to functions performed by the insurance member credit risk team. Communicate with internal auditors, external auditors and other key stakeholders regarding insurance and non-depository underwriting policies and procedures.
  • Manage and lead special projects.

Other:

  • Coordinate, manage and ensure compliance regarding the group’s end user computing applications and disaster recovery/business continuity requirements as it pertains to the insurance company/non-depository member credit risk team.
  • Support the quarterly and annual process of SEC reporting related to credit risk.
  • Adheres to workplace rules and normal working hours.

Position Requirements

:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Accounting or other related field. Advanced degree (Masters level+) in a business field and/or a professional certification (CPA or CFA) and relevant work experience strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience within the life insurance industry and an understanding of insurance statutory financial statements and the regulatory environment. Insurance examination experience/knowledge is strongly desired.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills with strict attention to detail. Ability to interact with FHLBI personnel and others outside the Bank.
  • Knowledge and ability to use computer tools in analysis of financial data. Specifically, experience using Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, and Access is required. Experience in data analysis tools such as Python and Power BI is preferred.
  • Ability to work full time and comply with the FHLBI’s Hybrid Workforce Model Guidelines.
  • Must not have been convicted on any civil or criminal charge that would suggest a risk to Bank security.
  • Ability to uphold and model the Bank's Guiding Principles.
