Job Description

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest.

We build honest financial products to improve user’s lives. We are continuously working on making our product available to more consumers, ensuring each interaction exceeds their expectations. We pride ourselves on our culture across engineering of writing blameless postmortems as well as writing detailed tech specs and gathering feedback before large changes to systems.

The Purchasing Experience Engineering teams grow Affirm's GMV through higher conversion rates by providing the best way to pay in the industry. We are responsible for the full stack web product experience from purchase intent through to a completed transaction, including education, prequalification, and checkout for all merchants or retailers partnered with Affirm. We are in search of a technical lead across two Purchasing Experience full stack teams. You will work in a fast-paced team environment, have an opportunity to mentor many engineers, and have a large influence in how we design the core purchasing user journey at Affirm to be fast and highly reliable.

What you'll do

  • Partner with Product stakeholders align on roadmaps, strategy, and vision for the Purchasing Experience engineering teams.

  • Collaborate with other technical leads, management, and stakeholders across the product engineering and platform engineering organizations to design and implement insightful forward-looking approaches that go beyond the direct team and solve large open-ended problems.

  • Lead the design and implementation of large scale and low latency services, elegant abstractions, shareable libraries, and robust APIs.

  • Conduct technical and soft skill evaluations to inform and influence our hiring decisions.

  • Lead and mentor engineers to help them succeed and grow. Provide them with the right context and train them to take ownership of their respective pieces of our initiatives.

What we look for

  • 7+ years of software development experience.

  • Experience with designing and owning highly available, business-critical user experiences and APIs. Bonus for experience building checkout or payment experiences.

  • Proven CS fundamentals and hands on coding and debugging experience using modern software delivery methods to develop services using Python/Kotlin and Javascript.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, related technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience.

  • You are eager to learn new things, have a growth mindset, and inspire your team to strive for operational excellence. Your team and your peers want to learn from you.

  • You have experience in architecting, building, launching and maintaining complex software systems. Availability and latency are top of mind for you when building user facing experiences.

  • You have high empathy for our customers and teammates and are action-oriented.

  • You enjoy working with product and engineering leaders to develop detailed project definitions, and drive technical decisions within your team and the broader organization.

  • You are just as comfortable leading outward and upward as you are leading downward. The right person for this role will be a passionate user product champion across the company, helping inspire and build highly available, fast, and scalable experiences that bring delight to our customers.
