Job purpose
The primary role of the Structural Engineer is to review, evaluate, and design upgrades to existing structures, as well as new structures and foundations. This position works with other project members to prepare or upgrade industrial facilities to meet client requirements. This role includes using specific Building Codes (including IBC, ASCE-7, and others as applicable) to design structures capable of supporting these industrial facilities. This position analyses, designs, and assesses project feasibility, cost, and timelines. This role requires a high level of communication and coordination with individuals, engineering teams, and clients.
Major Responsibilities and Essential Functions

- Provide expertise in various aspects of engineering and design as well as other functions as required.
- Research and analyze client requests associated with structural design.
- Prepare civil and structural design calculations, drawings, and specifications for industrial systems.
- Participate in planning, cost development, and scheduling for projects.
- Generate analyses, specifications, and estimated construction schedules for projects.
- Coordinate with various engineering groups including mechanical and electrical groups to assist in preparing designs for projects.
- Communicate with clients, vendors, and relevant stakeholders on projects.
- Develop 3D structural analysis models.
- Prepare technical information and presentations for peers, teams, and clients.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an accredited program.
- Registered Professional Engineer, Structural Engineer registration preferred.
- Minimum of six (6) years of experience in structural engineering design or related field.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, 3D Modeling, and Navisworks software packages.
- Knowledge of Advanced Steel, Visual Analysis, and BlueBeam software preferred.
- Ability to gather and analyze measurement data from the field.
- Accurately interpret and critically evaluate design drawings and schematics.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and maintain quality service while under pressure.
- High level of conscientiousness and attention to detail.
- Ability to work alone or within groups as necessary.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills (e.g. Being able to explain technical issues to clients using common language.)
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat (or Bluebeam) software.
Working conditions
This position routinely operates in a professional office environment with the potential for travel and on-site start-up time. Start-ups may include working environments such as factory floors where industrial machinery is present and in operation.
Physical requirements
This role requires the employee to occasionally stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
