We are seeking an experienced Underwriter to join our team. The Underwriter will be responsible for leading the underwriting operations within Instnt’s Managing General Underwriter (MGU), ensuring the efficient assessment of risk and adherence to underwriting guidelines. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of insurance products and a commitment to delivering high-quality underwriting services to our clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Underwriting Strategy and Policy Development:
    • Help advise in the development of underwriting guidelines, policies, and procedures tailored to the specialty insurance products offered by the MGU.
    • Collaborate with senior management to establish underwriting strategies that align with the MGU's business objectives.
  • Risk Assessment and Pricing:
    • Act as a key stakeholder in the evaluation and pricing of risks associated with specialty insurance products, including but not limited to excess and surplus lines.
    • Utilize data analytics and market insights to assess risk and determine appropriate pricing strategies.
  • Portfolio Management and Performance Monitoring:
    • Manage the underwriting portfolio to achieve targeted profitability and growth objectives.
    • Monitor and analyze underwriting performance metrics, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
  • Client and Broker Relationships:
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, brokers, and other stakeholders.
  • Compliance and Regulatory Oversight:
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements governing underwriting practices, including licensing, filings, and reporting obligations.
    • Stay informed about changes in regulatory environments and industry best practices relevant to the MGU's operations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field. Advanced degree or professional designation (e.g., CPCU, AU, ARM) is preferred.
  • Active insurance license required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in underwriting within the insurance industry, preferably in cyber, corporate fraud or within risk related to commercial lines.
  • Strong technical underwriting expertise, including risk assessment, pricing, and portfolio management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and negotiate effectively with clients and brokers.
  • Demonstrated commitment to compliance, ethics, and professionalism.

Salary: $80k-$115k (placement within this range depends upon several factors, including the applicant’s prior relevant job experience, skill set, and geographic location)
