The decline of coal has been economically devastating for eastern Kentucky communities, driving significant outmigration and poverty in a region that once supported large working-class populations.

Louisville is Kentucky's economic anchor, home to Humana (one of the nation's largest health insurers), Kindred Healthcare, Yum!
