Serco Skills and Training Services (STS) was formed in October 2023 to provide high quality government funded and commercial training solutions, and services to government departments, authorities, employers, and citizens.

Serco Skills and Training Services (STS) provide vocational training to external customers and learners, funded through the apprenticeship levy or commercially.

The primary responsibilities will be to guide and support learners through every stage of their apprenticeship. In particular, the role holder will coach apprentices in the skills and behaviours required for school-based apprenticeships up to level 6, via a blended learning approach which includes face to face and online engagement with apprentices.

We are currently recruiting for an Apprenticeship Manager who will be part of the STS Delivery Operations team and will manage all aspects of planning, mobilisation and delivery of Apprenticeship training.

Key Accountabilities

  • Management of Serco Degree Apprenticeships and Apprenticeship programmes and Teams to meet operational, ESFA and Ofsted quality and compliance targets.
  • Manage the design of adult education and apprenticeship programmes for the Education Sector, working with the contracts team to ensure programmes meet demand, are financially viable, and meet Ofsted and awarding body requirements.
  • Manage the development of learning and delivery materials for programmes within the Adult and apprenticeship offer, working with the Continuous Improvement Team, Funding Registry and Governance, and internal and/or third-party product development where relevant.
  • Management of safeguarding, prevent and learner welfare.
  • To work with colleagues in STS delivery in developing the culture, systems, processes and skills necessary to embed a customer and learner approach to training and service delivery.
  • Operational management of tutors and coaches in the support of the delivery of apprenticeship courses, contributing to planning and policy formation, implementation and evaluation.
  • Liaising with our partner organisations, develop and maintain the project plan for the adult and apprenticeship courses.
  • Review monthly data for the apprenticeship courses to support, performance and management against the agreed programme kpi’s, forecasting and accountability.
  • Support the apprenticeship, courses marketing strategy so that take up is in line with the Delivery Plan.
  • Manage change to the adult and apprenticeship courses or their delivery.
  • Manage the performance and motivation of individuals within the team, supporting learning and development of direct reports to improve performance and job satisfaction and ensuring that Serco values are embedded through the implementation of effective performance management processes and that this is evidenced through provider feedback and the annual Serco Viewpoint staff survey.

What you need to do the role?

  • Experience of managing both Degree Apprenticeships and Apprenticeship programmes and Teams at Ofsted grade 2 as a minimum
  • Minimum L5 Diploma in Education and training (or equivalent)
  • IQA qualification
  • Experience of studying at level 6 or above
  • Experience of designing and delivering adult vocational programmes for the education sector, including experience of working within a regulated quality environment (OFSTED, awarding bodies etc)
  • Experience of working under pressure to meet customer expectations.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Commitment to personal development and learning
  • Manage own workload, anticipate and escalate issues as they arise and thrive under pressure.
  • Effective research skills.

Skills and Qualifications (Desirable)

  • Relevant industry experience in the Education sector
  • Experience of studying at level 7

The ability to and experience of working within a regulated quality environment (OFSTED, awarding bodies, HEI, EPAO etc) is a critical part of this role.
