The Department of Economic Security, Office of Inspector General (OIG) is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as an Auditor 4. The Auditor 4 is responsible for conducting complex compliance, fiscal, and provider audits as well as ad hoc assignments. Auditor 4's will take on more complex and/or sensitive audits. This position independently completes high quality audit work papers and documents complete test work and findings ensuring conclusions are well-supported. Research designated division and Federal policy to determine criteria for the audits and determine risks and the course of action required to mitigate the risks. In addition, this position will act as a team lead and subject matter expert and will take on more complex audits as well as assist co-workers.
This position may offer the ability to work remotely within Arizona based upon the department's needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Essential Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Independently examines financial records of state and local government and private contractors participating in state and federally funded programs; examines vouchers, checks, invoices, payroll, timesheets, equipment, budgets, and other financial documents for validity and correctness in accordance with state and federal regulations. Sample selection and testing. Examines and analyzes reports, statistical data, correspondence, and
• Reviews products or achievements of co- workers; evaluates work and formulates plans for improvement. Advises co-workers in proper use of a complex system of methods, procedures, rules and regulations. Directs, explains, and counsels co-workers in carrying out of variety of tasks.
• Communicates status of work through weekly audit team huddles. Presents update information to designated division through update meetings or emails as necessary. Adheres to all professional standards for Internal Auditors.
• Develops audit program, performs background research i.e. best practices, innovations in program area, etc. and develops findings and recommendations; develops spreadsheets, graphics, etc. to demonstrate basis for recommendations.
• Reviews and examines contracts of organizations participating in federally funded programs; verifies compliance with laws and regulations; makes determinations and plans actions.
• Attends periodic workshops or training sessions to improve working knowledge and skills at senior worker level.
• Examines and analyzes reports, statistical data, correspondence, and other materials relating to project/audit as a basis for program evaluation. Compares data from various sources to determine compliance with technical specifications, rules, or other technical documents, using judgment and relying upon considerable knowledge of the subject materials. Evaluates and makes recommendations. Analyzes and evaluates work procedures.
Knowledge of:
- Principles and practices of auditing and accounting.
• Federal and state laws, rules, and regulations as they pertain to program operations/activities.
• Software programs used for data analysis.
• Business practices in both public and private industry.
Skill in:
- Applying auditing and accounting methods and techniques.
• Applying and interpreting federal and state laws, rules, and regulations as they pertain to program operations/activities.
• Applying program policy and contract requirements to contracted provider activities.
• Using computerized products, such as Excel and Access, for analysis and work management.
• Project report writing.
Ability to:
• Plan and assist in audits of large, complex operations or organizations.
• Communicate both orally and in writing at a high level.
• Develop excellent interpersonal relationships.
The ideal candidate for this position will have:
• Bachelor's degree in accounting or closely related field. Preference given to applicants with audit experience. Prefer Certified Internal Auditor (CIA); Certified Public Accountant (CPA); Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE); and/or Certified Gov. Auditing Professional (CGAP).

• If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
• Bachelor's Degree in accounting or closely related field PLUS two years' experience as an Auditor or equivalent.
