Job Description

cheBackend Software Engineer

In this role, you will make a meaningful contribution in ensuring we continue to move in the right direction. You will be working on a variety of exciting technologies. Our application code is written in Java 11 using Spring Boot, Hibernate, Redis, RabbitMQ and Elasticsearch. Your application will be deployed using Kubernetes and monitored using Prometheus. Everything runs in AWS.

We do things well, but we’re not complacent. We want to do great work and to be known for it. We are breaking up our applications into microservices that are well tested, independently deployable and highly observable. We are empowering our teams to operate independently and to ship to production as frequently as they see fit. We’re looking for people who can help us to realise this vision and accelerate the journey, who know what great technology looks like and who can mentor our existing team.

As a Software Engineer in the Treatwell team you will work as part of a cross functional Agile team writing and shipping high quality code frequently. You’ll do whatever you can to help your team to meet or exceed its goals and you will drive incremental improvements in both the way we work and the software we deliver. You will also help your teammates to become more effective and grow their skills.

We want you to be happy, engaged and motivated so that you’re able to use your skills and expertise to improve the lives of those around you, to develop your mentoring and leadership skills whilst collaborating with other Engineers, and to be proud of your contribution to Europe’s largest health and beauty marketplace while supporting thousands of salons to connect with new customers and grow.

You will be responsible for:

  • You’ll work as part of a cross-functional squad, collaborating to deliver incremental, meaningful changes to our customers.
  • You’ll support and mentor junior team members, helping them create well thought out and robust solutions.
  • You’ll help your team identify opportunities to improve their ability to deliver all kinds of changes to their users.
  • You’ll help with the running and maintenance of your team's applications in production.

About you:

  • You’ve written Java professionally.
  • You’ve worked with some of our tech stack and can learn the rest very quickly.
  • You’ve been part of a high-performing, autonomous Agile development team that delivers continuously.
  • You get a kick out of mentoring and empowering the team around you.
  • You have a deep understanding of how distributed applications are designed and built.
  • You know good technical design when you see it and ensure quality is embedded in the software development process.
  • You’re a good communicator, fun to work with and enjoy being part of a vocal, passionate team.
  • You’re active in the software development community, whether through blogs, meetups, personal projects or open-source contributions.
