About the Role:

Octave is looking for a Billing Specialist with a strong commitment to customer service excellence and operational efficiency. Octave's Billing Specialist is a crucial component of our Revenue Cycle team. They will support our clients by processing daily client payments, checking insurance eligibility and communicating benefits details to clients, submitting insurance claims, and answering our clients’ billing inquiries. As you will be a main point of contact for many of our our West Coast clients, you should be comfortable with a moderately high call volume from clients in the Pacific Time Zone who have billing-related questions. Therefore, you should be located in, or willing to work, Pacific Time Zone hours. You will report directly to the Revenue Cycle Manager.

This role is well-suited for someone who has a passion for customer service, enjoys problem-solving, and is excited by the dynamic environment of a startup.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Timely, warm and efficient communication with clients, clinicians and other Octave employees.
  • Work across multiple software systems to perform eligibility checks, generate invoices/super bills and submit insurance claims.
  • Process payments daily using software systems.
  • Communicate with health plans to obtain information and solve problems.
  • Proactively manage queue of incoming client inquiries to ensure timely responses and successful resolution.
  • Explore innovative ways to streamline processes as Octave grows.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 year's experience working in healthcare administration (e.g. Front Office, Insurance or Patient Billing, Medical Claims & Coding, Insurance Verification & Follow-up, etc.).
  • Strong roots in customer service.
  • Located in, or willing to work, Pacific Time Zone hours.
  • Comfortable managing client phone calls related to billing and explanation of benefits.
  • Experience working with medical insurance - both in-network and out-of-network.
  • Experience with healthcare processes and terminology.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High comfort level multitasking between cross-functional systems.
  • Open to performing tasks outside of your defined role with an eagerness to learn and grow.
  • Ability to handle sticky or sensitive situations with discretion and care.
  • Passion for mental health and wellness.
  • Google Suite Experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to frequently communicate with others through virtual meeting applications such as Zoom and Google Meet.
  • Must be able to observe and communicate information on company provided laptop.
  • Move up to 10 pounds on occasion.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.

Starting pay for qualified applicants will depend on a combination of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. The expected salary range for this role is set forth below and this range may be modified in the future.

The salary range for this role is $21.00 - $24.00 per hour.

Additionally, this position is eligible for the following benefits: company sponsored life insurance, disability and AD&D plans. Voluntary benefits such as 401k retirement, medical, dental, vision, FSA, HSA, dependent care and commuter/parking options are also available. Octave offers generous Paid Time Off as well as paid parental leave benefits.
