The Back Room

Job Description

Come and make a real impact, The Back Room is growing fast, helping over 150 accounting firms across the world offshore their tax and compliance work, freeing up their time and capacity to grow and develop onshore capabilities and deliver value-added advisory services to their clients.

We have taken our vision and proven business model from New Zealand and the Philippines to the world and now have clients across New Zealand, Australia, the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

As a company, we pride ourselves on a people-first culture; we provide unique opportunities that are equally challenging and rewarding and an environment where people are celebrated for the impact they make, encouraged to bring their whole selves to work and supported to grow and develop.

The Back Room

One of the biggest causes of stress for accounting and bookkeeping firms comes from concerns around talent acquisition and retention and a lack of capacity to focus on business growth. The Back Room has a proven business model building and training offshore teams for our Accounting and Bookkeeping partners, allowing them to gain time and financial freedom to grow their business, expand their value-driven advisory offerings to clients and build the onshore capabilities of their onshore teams.

This is an opportunity to be part of a fast-growing, global leader in offshoring for the Accounting and Bookkeeping industry that’s making a significant difference in the lives of Accounting and Bookkeeping Firms - for practice owners, their teams and their clients - and of course for our amazing staff in the Philippines and Colombia.

The role

The role will have you working with a growing local and wider global team with specific responsibility for growing new business and nurturing existing relationships and opportunities with The Back Room customers across New Zealand and Australia.

On a day-to-day basis, you will:

  • Develop and nurture a sales plan across your territory, mapping the market and identifying target clients

  • Develop and maintain genuine relationships with existing customers and identify further sales opportunities.
Know your customer’s business and their challenges at a deep level
Develop an understanding of the market we operate in, bringing insights to existing and prospective customers
  • Develop a close working relationship with key partners such as Xero and The Gap, working strategically with your region's sales representatives
  • Collaborate with sales and marketing leadership, account management, recruitment and training teams to advocate for and represent your customers
  • Attend industry events and look for opportunities to build your network within the accounting industry Conduct presentations to existing and potential customers and key partners, both individually and at industry events

To be successful in this role, you will

  • Have a minimum of three years sales experience in enterprise solutions
  • Genuinely enjoy building trusted relationships and leading customers through the buying journey
  • Be a boss at generating and qualifying sales opportunities while maintaining a strong sales pipeline through to close
  • Be super driven, and a self-starter with a proven track record of nailing your sales targets and being a top performer
  • Have an understanding of the accounting industry and the opportunities and challenges that accounting practice owners face
  • Be an authentic and compelling communicator and comfortable presenting to an audience of (typically) senior stakeholders
  • Be able to demonstrate success in developing your customer's business that goes beyond just ‘making the sale’
  • Be able to work autonomously and be productive while working remotely or traveling

This is an awesome opportunity to work with a great bunch of humans, in a successful company that has huge growth ambitions.

Note - our team is fully remote and we are open to all candidates across New Zealand and Australia so long as you’re open to travel. The most important thing for us is that we find the right person to join our team with a passion to keep growing something special with us.
