Job Description Summary:

The Country Manager-Canada is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership and execution of the company’s overall business strategy for Canada. The incumbent plays a key role in building the PTC’s business platform in the Canadian market. This role will report directly to the VP, General Manager- North America. The Country Manager will oversee all aspects of the Canadian operations, including sales, marketing, regulatory compliance, and customer relations, ensuring alignment with the company’s global objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

1.Strategic Leadership: - Develop and implement the overall business strategy for Canada, in alignment with global objectives. - Identify and capitalize on growth opportunities within the Canadian market to ensure the company's long-term sustainability and competitive advantage.
2.Operational Management: - Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in all business functions. - Manage budgets, financial performance, and resource allocation to achieve organizational goals. - Implement best practices in operational processes to drive productivity and quality.
3.Sales and Marketing: - Drive sales and revenue growth through effective marketing strategies and customer engagement. - Foster strong relationships with key stakeholders, including healthcare providers, regulatory bodies, and industry partners. - Monitor market trends and adjust strategies to maintain a competitive edge.
4.Regulatory Compliance: - Ensure all business activities comply with local, provincial, and federal regulations. Stay updated on changes in the regulatory environment and guide the company through compliance requirements. - Collaborate with internal and external legal and regulatory teams to mitigate risks.
5.Team Leadership and Development: - Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team across various functions. - Foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture that encourages innovation and collaboration. - Implement talent development programs to ensure the continuous growth and retention of key personnel.
6.Customer Relations: - Enhance customer satisfaction through exceptional service and support. - Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential customers. - Address and resolve customer issues and feedback promptly and effectively

Job Description:

Responsibilities:

  • Develops and executes country specific business strategies to maximize product performance, in collaboration with PTC’s Global and Regional initiatives.
  • Develops and executes associated tactical initiatives, financial plans, staffing requirements, etc. required to drive and sustain growth within the Canadian market.
  • Builds and leads the specific commercial operations for PTC and drives the achievement of business objectives.
  • Accountable to deliver against the agreed commercial and strategic objectives, managing profit & loss (P&L), including direct impact on sales, cost and profitability as well as quality, compliance and risk management.
  • Responsible for operational management of sales team, pre-launch planning and developing forecasts and budgets.
  • Establishes, manages and maintains successful relations with relevant health authorities, key opinion leaders (KOLs), government agencies and officials as well as patient and industry associations.
  • Effectively identifies, develops and executes the country specific reimbursement strategy, including the communication of the value proposition to key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develops a tight-knit organization capable of fulfilling all the requirements of a growing, successful, diverse and compliant biopharmaceutical organization.
  • Contributes to the development and maintenance of a regulatory, pharmacovigilance (PV), quality, distribution and medical affairs framework that ensures ongoing compliance with all legal and statutory requirements in Canada. Collaborates, guides and supports third party providers on successful planning and achievement of operational and strategic goals.
  • Leads, develops and implements geographical expansion and market entry business plans in line with the PTC’s commercial strategy.
  • Collaborates closely with internal PTC resources to ensure the timely completion and submission of regulatory documents as required.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a related business or scientific discipline and a minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology or related environment including a minimum of 5 years in a regional/country general management role or a minimum of 10 years of related professional experience in these same environments or equivalent.

  • Adaptability: Responds well to change and can pivot strategies as needed to address evolving market conditions.
  • Demonstrated track record of success leading the commercialization of an orphan, rare disease and/or specialized drug(s) that require the development and execution of unique business strategies.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Canadian regulatory and reimbursement requirements.
  • Ability to anticipate issues and respond quickly and creatively to solve problems and address market challenges.
  • Demonstrated experience building and leading teams dedicated to growth of the business.
  • Experience developing, managing and maintaining relationships with governments, regulators and other relevant authorities, external service providers, etc.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and experience managing, coaching and mentoring direct reports.
  • Ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, as required, in a fast-paced, matrixed, team environment consisting of internal and external team members.
  • Analytical thinker with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent planning, organization and time management skills including the ability to support and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Fluent in English and French (verbal and written).

Special knowledge or skills and/or licenses or certificates preferred.

  • Advanced degree (PhD, Master’s, MBA).
  • Experience in rare disease therapeutic areas: genetic disorders, neuromuscular disorders, and PKU.
  • In-depth, hands-on experience working in a small but fast growing, entrepreneurial environment.

Travel requirements - 60%
