Job Description:

Our client is seeking a visionary Vice President of Data Architecture to lead and shape the data strategy and architecture across the organization. This senior leadership role will oversee the design, implementation, and optimization of large-scale data platforms and systems, ensuring they meet the needs of both technical and business stakeholders. The VP of Data Architecture will drive best practices in data management, integration, and analytics, leading the data architecture team to deliver scalable and high-performance solutions.

The ideal candidate must have a proven track record in big data architecture, working in a cloud environment, particularly AWS. The role requires a deep understanding of data governance, data modeling, and advanced analytics, combined with strong leadership skills to guide the organization’s data strategy.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or related technical field.
  • 10+ years of experience in data architecture and data engineering roles, with a focus on large-scale data platforms.
  • Expertise in data modeling, including conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
  • Extensive experience in cloud-based data architectures, especially using AWS services (S3, EC2, EMR, Redshift, RDS).
  • Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks, data quality, and master data management (MDM) principles.
  • Hands-on experience in big data technologies such as Spark, Hadoop, and Kafka.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and partner with senior leadership to align data architecture with business goals.
  • Expertise in SQL and Python, including data querying, transformation, and optimization.
  • Experience with ETL processes and data integration from diverse sources (structured and unstructured).
  • Excellent communication skills to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with data architecture frameworks such as TOGAF or Zachman.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices in the context of data pipelines and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD).
  • Experience with machine learning frameworks and building data platforms to support AI/ML use cases.
  • Prior experience in financial services or healthcare industries is a plus.
  • Knowledge of data security best practices, including encryption and secure data access.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the overall data architecture strategy, ensuring that data platforms are scalable, reliable, and support business objectives.
  • Design and optimize data pipelines for both real-time and batch processing, ensuring efficient data flows.
  • Drive data governance initiatives, ensuring data quality, security, and compliance with industry regulations.
  • Collaborate with data engineering, analytics, and business teams to align data architecture with project requirements and long-term business strategies.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of data lakes, data warehouses, and data marts that meet the needs of various business units.
  • Evaluate and implement new data technologies and tools to continuously improve data capabilities.
  • Manage and mentor a team of data architects and engineers, providing leadership and direction to ensure high performance.
