This assignment posting is for an Agency Worker opportunity with Dotdash Meredith. The Agency
Worker is paid by a staffing agency employer. Agency Workers will receive a W2 from the staffing agency reporting their earnings for tax purposes. As a contract developmental editor for Food & Wine you will work with freelance editors on updating and improving our existing library of content. You will primarily review the work of freelance editors, ensuring all articles meet quality standards, and follow project instructions and brand guidelines. You will also offer new and veteran editors feedback and revisions to improve the overall editing process. Candidates must provide clips that demonstrate their expertise in the spheres of food and cooking. Though a professional culinary background is not required, candidates must have sufficient knowledge to identify and, at times, rectify problems in recipe- or technique-based writing. Ideally, they’d be acquainted with Food & Wine’s body of work, including a familiarity with (and enjoyment of) its content.As a digital publisher that reaches millions per month, Dotdash Meredith has the power and responsibility to create positive change. The rate for this role is $32-$35/hour. Applicants must live in the United States or Canada.

Assignment Responsibilities:In this role, you will:
  • Research and perform revisions, updates, and rewrites to stories, galleries, and recipes as needed according to specific project instructions and brand guidelines.
  • Fact check and copy edit on top of any larger revisions and updates.
  • Write headline options when applicable.
Skills/Experience:
  • You have a strong background in food and extensive knowledge of cooking, recipes, and different kinds of cuisines.
  • You can quickly adhere to style guides and brand voice guidelines.
  • You have experience copy editing for a food site or magazine.
  • You’re able to easily adopt an established brand voice, and you adhere to strict brand and style guidelines like a pro.
  • You’re a great editor, and consider yourself “nit-picky” at times. You know the difference between an en-dash and an em-dash and eat misplaced modifiers for breakfast.
  • You’re comfortable working in a content management system and can work quickly, independently, and accurately.
  • You are an excellent communicator and are comfortable giving both positive and negative feedback to a team member.
  • At least 3 years experience editing in the food and beverage space, preferably for a digital brand.
  • Comfortable with content management systems, including Wordpress.
  • You are comfortable working remotely.
  • You have access to a smartphone, computer (not a tablet), and a secure internet connection.
