Job Description

Johns Hopkins Carey Business School is seeking a skilled eLearning Graphic Designer to work on a casual as needed basis. Operating remotely, this role elevates online courses at Carey by translating stakeholder requirements and content into captivating visuals. As a casual employee in this capacity, the responsibilities include creating graphics and illustrations and providing prototypes for diverse media projects, such as interactive lessons, video production, and motion graphics. The primary focus will be on contributing to the media team's efforts to maintain brand consistency across visual elements, actively participating in developing new graphic elements for various courses. A keen attention to detail and a commitment to pushing the boundaries of brand alignment while ensuring adherence are crucial. Previous experience in graphics accessibility standards is a valuable asset.

This position is remote.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work with the eLearning team and other stakeholders to understand content and visual needs to develop clear and compelling course graphics to support adult learners’ engagement and comprehension of course material.
  • Consult with the eLearning Development Specialist to conceptualize and design interactive projects.
  • Support projects spanning the production of multiple development courses, revamp, or revision.
  • Ensure all graphics developed meet standards for accessibility, brand, and production value.
  • Use software and design programs like Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and others to create artwork
  • Develop and illustrate graphic icons.
  • Monitor and track iterations and reviews for approvals.
  • Proof and perform quality control on your own and other’s work in detail.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work under pressure and track details of multiple projects.

Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Expert knowledge in the Adobe Creative Suite. Specifically, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.
  • Extreme attention to detail and ability to handle multiple projects at once.
  • Design thinking, creative problem-solving skills, and growth mindset.
  • Ability to take ideas and concepts and convert them into a compelling visual.
  • Passion for composition, hierarchy, and visual storytelling through design.
  • Understanding of and appreciation for typography and how to use it effectively.
  • Experience with both print and digital design media and how to intersect the two.
  • Ability to accept constructive criticism.
  • Attention to detail along with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to brainstorm and conceptualize unique ideas for a digital-first world.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in fine arts, graphic design, or related field.
  • Two year's experience and a portfolio.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in higher education eLearning development a plus.
  • Artistic ability to produce illustrations or cartoons from scratch.
  • 4-5 years of experience working as a graphic designer.
  • Interest in illustration and visual storytelling.
  • HTML experience.
