Background:
The Program Impact and Quality Assurance department (PIQA) includes a diverse range of technical teams working in the fields of agriculture, health, education, gender, WASH, youth, etc. Within PIQA, the Gender team contributes to integral human development by promoting gender equality for women, men, boys and girls both within the agency, through CRS advocacy programs and initiatives and technical assistance to CRS Country Programs and projects. The PIQA Gender team also leads the roll-out of the gender strategy, including building evidence of the effectiveness of CRS’ various gender approaches.

This short-term summer hire position seeks a current graduate student or recent graduate interested in obtaining work experience that aligns with his/her studies in International Development, Management or Policy, Gender Studies, Social Work, Sociology or other related field and/or to fulfill requirements for an academic course or degree.

Learning Components:
Deepened understanding of gender-responsive and transformative development programming and best practices.

Primary Function:
Contribute to the advancement of CRS’ global gender strategy by: (1) documenting and sharing learning on the effectiveness of CRS’ various gender approaches across the globe; (2) creating job-aids and other tools that support the roll out of the gender strategy and other functions that support the efforts of CRS’ global gender team.

Key Responsibilities:
• Contribute to knowledge management and learning through collecting and analyzing program data, evaluating strategic projects, assisting with measuring program impact, capturing and sharing lessons learned and best practices, as well as carrying out research and report writing. Work closely with Regional Technical Advisers (RTAs) for Gender and CRS Country Program staff to identify projects/approaches and document learning.
• Conduct reviews of literature and other secondary research as needed.
• Provide support in production of materials and resources for online distribution within and outside of CRS.
• Support organizing CRS Gender intranet / SharePoint page.
• Support preparations for CRS’ global gender team retreat expected to be held in October 2024.

Key Working Relationships:
Internal: Technical Advisor for Gender, Senior Technical Advisor for Gender, Regional Technical Advisors for Gender and Protection.

Qualifications:
• Recent college graduate or Master’s degree candidate in International Development, Management or Policy Studies, gender studies, social sciences, social work or related field.
• Good knowledge of concepts, approaches, and best practices in the field of international development. Gender integration and programming knowledge desired.
• Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, SharePoint and web-based communications platforms (Teams).
• Strong English writing, reading and communication skills.
• Strong research and analytical skills.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to juggle multiple tasks.
• Ability to work independently when provided with clear directions and with a team.
• Ability to coordinate and collaborate with stakeholders across CRS (at headquarters, regional and country program levels).
• Proactive, resourceful and results-oriented.
• Two years related-work experience desired, but not required.
• Spanish or French language skills desired, but not required.

Physical Requirements/Environment:
The intern shall work outside the CRS office, working remotely from his/her home or school campus. No travel is planned, whether overseas or domestic. Meetings and discussions with CRS staff can be conducted telephonically or using web-based telecommunication software (Microsoft Teams).
