Company Description

Wise is a global technology company, building the best way to move and manage the world’s money. Min fees. Max ease. Full speed.

Whether people and businesses are sending money to another country, spending abroad, or making and receiving international payments, Wise is on a mission to make their life easier and save them money.

As part of our team, you will be helping us create an entirely new network for the world's money. For everyone, everywhere.

More about our mission.

Job Description

We are looking for an awesome new member of the Tax Team to come on board in Brazil, to help grow the market and region in a compliant way!

You’ll be part of a commercially-minded Tax team, helping to ensure our tax affairs are efficient, transparently compliant and slick so that our mission is sustainable.

Your mission

  • Manage the outsourced preparation of Brazil and other LatAm tax computations across direct and indirect taxes. This includes adhering to controls, managing risks and identifying ways to automate and streamline manual tasks using existing systems or emerging technologies.

  • Assist with the preparation of IFRS and local GAAP half year and year-end tax reporting and tax provisions with the help of advisors where necessary.

  • Work closely with financial controllers, accounting, and finance system teams for sources of data and information, including directly extracting information from our ERP system.

  • Support the Regional lead on ad hoc research and projects, including expansion into new countries and liaising with external advisors to ensure tax requirements are met.

  • Engage in team-wide initiatives including budgeting, forecasting, planning, risks and controls. It is important to be interested in and engaged in all tax initiatives and to work closely with all members of the tax team.

Qualifications

As we continue to scale at speed, this role will inevitably evolve over time, so you’ll need to be proactive, independent and excited at the prospect of solving unfamiliar problems.

  • Strong local Brazilian tax knowledge (direct and indirect taxes are a plus!)

  • Experience in the preparation of tax returns and tax provisions including tax accounting knowledge

  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and operate in a fast moving environment

  • Ability to develop robust technical positions able to stand up to challenge

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Self-starter - this role is remote to the wider tax team so to be successful you must be able to prioritise and drive projects forward with the local team and advisors

Some extra skills that would be great

  • Finance or Accounting degree

  • Practical experience of direct and indirect taxes in an in-house environment

  • Good analytical capabilities, ability to think strategically and recommend pragmatic business aligned solutions

  • Experience working with wider finance teams and applying law changes to a wider finance function, including forecasting.

  • Someone with prior experience in regulated fintech / financial services

Additional Information

  • Please apply by submitting your resume in English. Applications in Portuguese will not be considered
  • This is a hybrid position located in Sao Paulo (Vila Madalena), and not fully remote. You must be able to commute to the office or open to relocation
