The Team

Upstart is establishing a centralized Legal Support team, which is a sub team within Fraud and Risk Operations. Legal Support Investigators will interpret legal demands, conduct research, aggregate information, and prepare findings. These roles will report to the Operations Manager, Back Office.

Position Location - This role is available in the following locations: Remote

Time Zone Requirements - This team operates on the East/West Coast time zones.

Travel Requirements - As a digital first company, the majority of your work can be accomplished remotely. The majority of our employees can live and work anywhere in the U.S, but are encouraged to to still spend high quality time in-person collaborating via regular onsites. The in-person sessions’ cadence varies depending on the team and role; most teams meet once or twice per quarter for 2-4 consecutive days at a time.

How you’ll make an impact:

  • In conjunction with paralegals, interpret legal demands to determine what information may be responsive.
  • Conduct research, identify relevant information, and prepare case files.
  • Anticipate the needs of the legal department based on the content of legal demands and incorporate them into concise summaries.
  • Act as a liaison between company Legal and Operations teams to support responses to legal demands.
  • Leverage expertise of company systems, processes, and data.

What we’re looking for:

  • Minimum qualifications:
    • 2 years experience conducting research and/or investigations in a financial institution or law firm.
    • Demonstrated ability to interpret requests, conduct research, and prepare findings.
    • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
    • Keen attention to detail and the ability to multitask effectively.
    • The ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Preferred qualifications:
    • Associates Degree or equivalent work experience.
    • Experience working cross functionally in a large, complex environment.
    • Prior experience supporting a legal function/department.
    • 2 or more years of investigative experience in the areas of disputes, complaints, and/or fraud.

This is a Non-Exempt position. Employees in this position are paid an hourly pay rate, on a bi-weekly basis, and are eligible to receive overtime pay for any hours worked over 40 in a work week, or over 8 in a work day if required by state law.

At Upstart, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. The anticipated annualized base salary for this position is expected to be within the below range. Your actual base pay will depend on your geographic location–with our “digital first” philosophy, Upstart uses compensation regions that vary depending on location. Individual pay is also determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

In addition, Upstart provides employees with target bonuses, equity compensation, and generous benefits packages (including medical, dental, vision, and 401k). Sales positions generally offer a competitive On Target Earnings (OTE) incentive compensation structure. The salary listed below for sales roles is On Target Earnings which includes both salary and commission, assuming 100% target achievement.
