Job Description

The Managing Editor is accountable for leading a guidebook production team (in-house and freelance) to ensure commercial and quality objectives are achieved and print and e-book publishing strategies (including those of international rights partners) are implemented.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the guidebook production team (in-house and freelance), including scheduling of resources
  • Ensure guidebook production team is suitably supported and resourced to effectively implement global and regional publishing strategies
  • Work with the Guidebook Publisher and guidebook production team to identify and implement publishing list strategy as required
  • Work with the Destination Editor team on the commissioning of content and the coordination of content delivery
  • Work with broader Lonely Planet and Red Ventures teams to ensure guidebook production team is equipped with appropriate publishing tools and platforms

What We're Looking For:

  • Extensive editorial experience (3–5 years)
  • High-level understanding and knowledge of editorial conventions
  • Working knowledge of the LP content management system
  • Strong people management, recruitment, liaison and training skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent written and verbal presentation skills
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize workload while maintaining strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated skills in managing and leading change
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation/persuasion skills
  • Must be client-focused with a flexible and adaptable attitude
