The Association of Women's Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) is a not-for-profit membership organization that promotes the health of women and newborns. Our mission is to empower and support nurses who care for women, newborns, and their families through research, education, and advocacy.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Member and Donor Relations Specialist plays a critical role in fostering relationships with members and donors, ensuring their connection to our mission, and supporting fundraising efforts for our Every Woman, Every Baby (EWEB) program. Reporting to and working closely with the Director of Membership Development, this individual will implement member and donor recruitment, retention, and engagement strategies, enhancing overall satisfaction and support. Key responsibilities include organizing and coordinating AWHONN’s fundraising initiatives to meet annual targets, managing the planning and execution of fundraising activities, and providing administrative support to the Membership and Volunteer Engagement Department. The role also involves a strong focus on communications, customer service, and data management related to donors, members, volunteers, and staff, along with maintaining donor history to support ongoing engagement efforts.

Requirements

JOB ELEMENTS: DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

MEMBER RELATIONS (50%)

  • Respond to member inquiries via phone, email, and other channels, providing timely and helpful information about membership benefits, renewals, and general inquiries.
  • Assist in developing communications and strategies for member retention.
  • Support the timely delivery of onboarding materials for new members, renewal invoices, and other membership communications.
  • Provide support for tracking and analyzing key performance indicators (KPIs) related to membership, engagement, and affiliates.
  • Serve as the main contact for generating membership reports, queries, exports, and mailing or email lists.
  • Support the planning and implementation of membership events, webinars, and special programs, ensuring a high-quality experience for attendees.
  • Assist in developing activities to enhance member engagement and expand member benefits.
  • Support the creation and analysis of membership reports and presentations.
  • Administer membership renewal processing in close collaboration with customer service, marketing staff, and the Director of Membership Development.
  • Coordinates website content by regularly reviewing membership webpages for accuracy and requests updates as needed. Suggests changes and proposes new content for webpages as appropriate.
  • Be flexible in executing additional duties as assigned to meet member needs and participate in other AWHONN programs and activities as required.

DONOR RELATIONS (50%)

  • Work with the Director of Membership Development and other staff to execute fundraising, cultivation, and stewardship programs for individual donors at all levels, including through direct mail, newsletters, website content, special events, and personal outreach.
  • Meet or exceed annual fundraising targets and donor prospect cultivation goals.
  • Serve as primary contact and support for all fundraising and donor engagement efforts.
  • Collaborate with marketing and membership staff to implement fundraising campaigns.
  • Prepare correspondence and generate mailings to prospects, donors, and volunteers.
  • Coordinate fundraising efforts across AWHONN departments to engage volunteer leaders, Section and Chapter members, staff donors, and other stakeholders.
  • Assist with, tracking, reconciling, and disbursing charitable funds, including grants received by AWHONN and those administered externally by AWHONN.
  • Create progress reports/dashboards and communicate achievements as needed.
  • Plan, support, and implement fundraising events throughout the year, including those during the annual AWHONN Convention.
  • Gather impactful stories and data that highlight the success and needs of the EWEB program.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to create compelling donor communication materials, including newsletters, social media content, and other items as needed.
  • Coordinates website content by regularly reviewing Every Woman, Every Baby webpages for accuracy and requests updates as needed. Suggests changes and proposes new content for webpages as appropriate.
  • Manage the online donation processing system, maintaining accurate and up-to-date donor and member records in the AMS. Generate donation statistics, reports, acknowledgment lists, and targeted donor mailing lists.
  • Track and analyze donor engagement metrics to assess the effectiveness of fundraising strategies and inform future initiatives.

ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT

  • Provide administrative support to the Membership and Development Committees, including assisting with conference call/meeting schedules, agendas, and materials.
  • Maintain and manage the office inventory of EWEB collateral and membership marketing materials.
  • Assist with and/or staff onsite development and membership activities and events.
  • This role involves approximately 3% travel.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • At least 2 years of professional experience in membership, member engagement, leadership support, or committee support, preferably within a nonprofit or association setting.
  • Previous or current experience working remotely.
  • Competency in using Association Management Systems (AMS).
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently, collaboratively in a team, and with individuals across a geographically dispersed membership.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high-level customer service to engaged VIPs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with key stakeholders across the organization.
  • Strong teamwork, collaboration, and multi-tasking abilities with a focus on meeting time-sensitive objectives.
  • Experience working with volunteer leaders and committees, including skills in recruitment and training.
  • Ability to make independent decisions, exercise sound judgment, and provide recommendations.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks and oversee approved budgets.
  • Excellent technology skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new software, with familiarity across various social networking platforms.
