Technical Manager Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Technical Manager to oversee the technical aspects and technological resources of our company for the purpose of business growth. The Technical Manager will work closely with different teams, understand their needs and ensure the best and most cost-effective solutions are provided. Our ideal candidate is a highly motivated, goal-oriented, team-focused engineer with a passion for overseeing projects and working on strategy with upper management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical direction and guidance for all projects the team handles.
  • Coordinate with the project management team to develop and implement project plans.
  • Manage and improve the allocation of technical resources and schedules of the projects.
  • Ensure all technology practices adhere to regulatory standards.
  • Identify, compare, select and implement technology solutions to meet current and future needs.
  • Develop, track, and control the development and deployment annual operating and capital budgets for buying, staffing, and operations.
  • Track, analyze and check technology performance metrics.
  • Oversee all system design and changes in system architecture.

Qualifications

  • Technical Managers typically need a minimum of 5 years of experience in technical roles such as System Administrator, IT Analyst, Software Engineer, or other IT-related roles.
  • Proven experience as a Technical Manager or similar role.
  • Sound understanding of computer systems, security, network and systems administration, databases and data storage systems.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical details clearly.
  • Experience with project management, strategic planning and risk management.
  • Extensive industry knowledge with an eye towards the future.
  • Strong decision-making skills with a knack for selecting and adopting technology.
  • BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent in a related field.

Technical Manager Duties and Responsibilities

Technical Managers oversee and manage the technological needs of a business, including the development and implementation of hardware, software and network systems.

They work hand in hand with the IT team to ensure that systems, services, and infrastructure work reliably and securely.

Technical Managers often have the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Identify and address technical issues within the company
  • Manage IT initiatives and collaborate with in-house technical staff
  • Design and implement technology solutions for the business
  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues
  • Ensure that technology works correctly and efficiently
  • Maintain network security with IT team
  • Supervise system infrastructure to ensure functionality and efficiency
  • Train employees in both hardware and software use
  • Develop and manage IT budget
  • Keep up with current tech trends, systems and software
  • Coordinate IT activities to ensure data availability and network services with as little downtime as necessary
  • Manage and update website, social media, and online systems

The base salary range for this position is $100,000 – $130,000.

The base salary offered will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, experience, credentials, education, certifications, skill level required for the position, the scope of the position, and geographic location. Actual base salary offered will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
